Boomer 2.0 with him moving into the midfield.

Going to be one hell of a damaging player in transition with the space at AFL level.

If we can get him with Port's R1 pick and still get one of Curtain/A.Reid/Duursma, I will consider that daylight robbery.

One of the things I love with him is the versatility he offers.

He could slot in easily as a more outside midfield role considering the excellent young contested ball winners we have with Jy, LDU, Powell and Phillips. He could play as a high-half forward working up the ground or as that extra at stoppages and he could play as a genuine inside 50m pressure small. He's even played some defense this year and looked good there too.

I like him most as a pressure forward most but with his athletic traits, skills and smarts, he'll be influential anywhere.

Liam Fawcett kicked another 3.2 from 13 disposals and 6 marks.

In my opinion we desperately need a couple of developing key forwards and another key defender on the list.
Sam Van Rooyen?
Or do you think his brother will be the better one?

On cue Nick Watson absolutely stuffed the stats sheet today as Eastern beat the Northern Knights ended up with 34 disposals, kicked 2.3, 6 marks and 8 inside 50’s.

Had a mate at the game who said he was class above and was just taking the piss.

Nate Caddy kicked 3 for the Northern Knights, but my mate said that Josh Tovey looked considerably taller than him and he is only 193cm. Can’t see him being a top 15 pick if he is indeed 191cm.

Can he settle down a bit. I want him in our pick range.

Never said 193cm is small, but sub 193cm is generally “undersized” for a key position player these days. Vast majority of key forwards are 195+cm.

If you are spending a top ten pick on a key forward then you want him to be key forward size (195+cm) unless they have some outstanding athletic point of difference.

I haven’t been able to get around to watching much Coates League this year (life and north melbourne taking over) have you seen much of Tom Anastasopoulos from Geelong Falcons? He’s kicked 10 goals from 3 games and averaged 16 touches to go along with it. At 176cm if he’s one of those zippy goal scoring small forwards, he’d have to be one we’d be all over, although again I haven’t watched him so don’t know what he’s like as a player.

I didn’t watch his whole game last week but watched the first half and scrolled through his goals in the 2nd half. I mentioned in my stats summary that he is definitely one to watch.

He had some serious moves and X-Factor. He seems to just understand where to be and he has the finishing skills to kick goals from anywhere. The big tick is that he isn’t just a forward pocket, he pushes up the ground and has an impact too. With his vision and kicking he is definitely one who you’d want kicking the footy inside 50.

Biggest concern is the height though. At 176cm that’s 2cm shorter than Jack Mahony. At this early stage though, i think he has more than enough tools to overcome that.

I had Nick Watson around the 12-14 mark but I’m gonna revise that. He’s the clear #2 and he’s coming for Harley. Let’s see how the academy boys go next week against Port Adelaide. But I’m tipping Watson will be the academy’s best. He was bloody good yesterday.

The height still concerns me especially if you are banking a top 5 pick on him.

Other than height he ticks just about every single other physical and footballing attribute that you’d want in a footballer.

Pace, agility, endurance and jumping ability combined with elite footy IQ, decision making, vision, spatial awareness, goal sense and competitiveness.

Don’t let the height concern you. He’s got some good hops for his size and is very good aerially. Really good on his left foot. Generally makes decisions and for the most part he loves involving his teammates in the game. There are times when he burns teammates but he gets the job done. #2………Daylight #3?
