If Joyce doesn't measure up tonight we have a big problem with lack of height in the backline imo. As others have pointed out teams like Port, Melbourne and Bulldogs all have tall forward options which we can't hope to cover without a third tall defender. Gardiner is no star but can at least compete hard, but it seems he won't be around when we play these teams. Rayner is nowhere near tall enough to be expected to fill the role and the only options appear to be Lester or Fullarton, neither who seem to being seriously considered atm. Hopefully Joyce shows a bit tonight because the role seems to be his if he performs well tonight.
I know Cam gives up 7cm on Dizzy, but I think his pure strength and also ability to leap and mark could counter that difference - not saying it's direct replacement, but I think there could be some areas Rayner will outperform what Dizzy could have, so that hopefully, in the balance of a full game it comes out closer to even, or perhaps a gain.

Last hitout before round 1. Would expect us to be playing much closer to how we will line up to really lock in everything.
Baring the wings and HBF spots. We still seem to be looking at about 4 or 5 guys into like 3 spots. Wouldnt surprise me if it chops and changes even the first few weeks of the year

I have three 27 inch screens at my home workstation. Tonight will be fun. One screen will be the cricket with no sound (very surprised that I'm even saying that, but how good is this test match tracking, might even last into day three), the second screen will be the Lions Geelong game.

I'd like to say that screen three will be my work. But I know I'm just kidding myself.

Not sure we need a quarter of the list in a leadership group but here we are.

Does each captain have his own leadership group?

I agree with that . Also they both deserve to be Captain. Not much point letting one of them down when the 2 of them can bring more in totality than one on his own would.

Halves the media and other commitments on each as well.

I have a spare ticket for tonight's game if anyone wants to go that missed out. First come first served.

Gadzorks you were after a ticket a couple of pages back -- did you want to grab it?

Bugger - I've agreed to baby sit my grandkids tonight.

Thanks for the offer but I'll be trying to get the babies to bed early so I can watch it on kayo.

Enjoy the game.

The complaints everytime co-captains are announced for a club always surprise me. It's reactive and myopic. Shared leadership models have a good or at least comparative record of success in a number of fields, broadly and also historically. Tongue slightly in cheek but the Roman Republic had the most successful governance of any democracy in history with two consuls sharing equal power and it lasted more than 450 years. Then they moved to a model of single leadership under the Roman Empire and every second emperor was chaotic and destructive!

Congrats to Choc and Chief, can't wait to see you hold up the cup together, albeit lopsidedly!

Less clangers maybe

Pfft, what have the Romans ever done for us.

The sharing equal power thing got a bit complicated as things got larger and more partisan.

Imagine America in 2016 ... Trump is president in Jan Mar May Jul Sep and Nov and Clinton is president in Feb Apr Jun Aug Oct and Dec ... but since Trump was the winner he gets to set the dates during when the Senate/Congress may not sit most of which amazingly enough will fall in Feb Apr Jun Aug Oct and Dec and their term is only for 1 year so us basically a never ending election cycle.

ugh

It's $25/month for Kayo in Australia these days too. Which is a necessity if you're a Lions supporter in Melbourne.
Or a Lions supporter living in any state / territory other than Queensland

At least this season though, I will be able to luckily watch my team play live 3 times :thumbsu:

Andrews and Neale congrats. But the huge news for me is McCluggage as the sole vice-captain. I'd have never thought that when he was drafted. Just seemed a quiet bloke that was busy doing his thing. Huge kudos to the work he's put in and will be massive for his development and a surprise to me I might add. Especially considering Berry and others are int he wings.

We were on the $15 a month cause we use Telstra. We got a notice saying that was ending, we rang and they retracted.

If we hadn't called, they would have just increased the price.

I passed Robbie Copeland chatting to Ben Hudson on the way into the ground. Nice to see past heroes still around the club.

Collaborative leadership goes way back to the Greeks and then the Romans as you point out.

The problems usually start when you get one person with delusions of grandeur and lots of suckholes below.

I don't really need to point out that the 20th century has lots of prescient examples.
