Aside from Tuohy and O'Connor, who is the third Irish lad at the Cats? Could be like 5-6 Irish boys playing with Madden, Joyce and McKenna also playing for Lions.

Oisin Mullin - Origin club Mayo - Cat B International selection from Ireland
Ted Clohesy - Origin club Mayo - Cat B NGA selection, born in South Africa

Both named as emergencies tomorrow night.
Apparently, all emergencies for the Cats did not get on the plane, so no chance of playing Thursday evening.

For the same reason you wouldn't or shouldn't have a co-President or co-CEO or co-Coach.
The main difference between an AFL captain and any of those is that an AFL captain has no decision making responsibilities other than heads or tails.

I don't mind the 2 Captains. The game's changed. At times one or the other could be off the field . Likewise anyone can get injured as we know.

More troublesome are the constant media commitments these days. Sharing the load can only be a good thing provided they're on the same page.

I'll be keeping a close eye on Dev, Wilmot, McKenna, Prior and Madden tomorrow night. I think all 5 are fighting for a spot for Round 1 and all have claims. Tunstill and Sharp as well but I see it as less likely they play Round 1, Madden in the same boat but with his ability to play multiple roles and with a good performance v the Cats he could accelerate into the frame.

Speaking of Madden, with the addition of McKenna during the off season and the inclusion of Wilmot, McKenna and Madden during our pre season matches, it would appear we are looking to add some more run and speed to our side this year. Perhaps to combat the running of sides like Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond and Collingwood.

Who are Geelong’s wingers?

I know Max Holmes on their bench is a specialist winger. Would Blicavs be considered a specialist winger?

I’m interested to see which way the league goes, with Melbourne and Carlton looking to play specialist wingers on both sides of the ground.

Where as our recent history is to play converted inside mids.

Isac Smith for some time and Max Holmes last year
Blicavs literally plays anywhere the last few years.
Like us the Cats have a few who rotate through the wings.
They do appear to have more players that can play a variety of roles than most sides.

Regarding the Lions once McCluggage was moved to mostly pure midfield and Robbo's form dropped right off, we had little options.
Lucky Berry was fairly good on the wing last year, but he is missing tomorrow evening so that's a worry.

Thought it was interesting on the podcast this week that Fish mentioned that the coaches weren't convinced on who would play on the wings yet (I took it to mean there was a spot up for grabs, not that they don't like the options).

Interesting observation from you. I'm sure there are plenty who think the same. There's a lot more to it than just the coin toss that we as supporters don't see.

The problem with having multiple co-executives is that they might not be on the same page for decisions that need to be made leading to second guessing and dysfunction. I'm curious where you think there are likely to be similar conflicts in having multiple captains of an AFL club.

Lynch and Voss made it work, so I see no reason why not. It all comes down to what/how the players feel. If they feel they can approach both/either and feel like they are represented and are prepared to follow both then that should be all that matters for the supporters.

Sydney have more or less had co-captains since 2005, and have been fairly successful during that time.

I don’t think it’s worth worrying about

Agree totally. One of the things captains do often have input into team selections when asked for their opinions. I think Harris & Lachie will be asked for their thoughts in different situations depending on the circumstance but I am sure they will overlap at times. "Spare of the moment" situations on the field will also play a role given how fast the game moves these days. Communication to the players is another one where their words and body language can/could have a different reaction. It's definitely a game of chess sometimes but I am sure that Fagan will have it sorted.

I think in the perfect world where you have someone who's the full package and can handle the extra pressure then you would select the one captain.

But it seems like Neale and Andrews have complimentary strengths as leaders and as representatives of the footy club with the added bonus that they share the responsibilities that come with the job

I agree with that . Also they both deserve to be Captain. Not much point letting one of them down when the 2 of them can bring more in totality than one on his own would.

Not sure we need a quarter of the list in a leadership group but here we are.

Who are the Cats missing? Hawkins, Cameron, J Henry and Clark.

Missing from our likely 'best' team when everyone is available:

Hawkins, J. Cameron, Duncan, J. Henry I. Smith and Bowes. It's a decent contingent missing, haha.

Be very surprised if you don't wallop us, given you're only missing Zorko, J. Berry and maybe Gardiner, from your best side.
