Are you suggesting this is what Fish does? I've never heard him suggest any player had failed by not winning a premiership. He would be one of the most even handed journos in the business.
I'm saying it's what every AFL journalist and fan does.

When we talk about a team failing we don't mean it personally. But the people in and around the team often take it that way.

It's just the way it is. It's a tough business on the people involved.

After watching the Geel v Hawks game today I am prepared to say that if we beat G then I'll become a true believer. V v impressive with nowhere near their best in.

The Hawthorn team were terrible and will easily be the worst team in the competition this year. Hard to get much of a read on Geelong coming out of that game.

The Geelong mids played out of their skin last year and think they will struggle to back that up. I am expecting a drop off this season.

Having a little empathy may be a difficult concept for some people to fathom.
Yeah I dunno about that.
I don’t view AFL players as children.
I’m not sure many AFL players parents do either.

They’re adults who have been educated about the industry they are in, and know what to expect.

Are you just being super empathetic just for arguments sake? I haven’t really seen or heard any evidence to suggest many players parents are suffering the way you are projecting.

Maybe I’m just a bit harsh though.

“My question is are they a team of champions or a champion team? Because their list is the best in the competition.

“They had six listed All-Australians last year. They’ve added Jack Gunston to make it seven. They have 10 who have been All-Australian squad or better. That is more than Geelong.

Reading that snippet hurt my head. Then I saw King wrote it and all made sense.

I have no disagreement with that. I think it is a pretty reasonable position for people in the industry to not like the media and how they talk about players, and indeed how fans do. I've pretty consistently been pro our players in discussions on here over the years as well, when I've seen lots of gross overreactions and criticism.

What I can't get behind is alluding to a journalist 'having a past' without particular provocation when I think the only thing that journo has ever done is describe a single performance as poor and then the coach has flown off the handle at him, and then subsequently apologised.

That's the thing.
last year it seemed we came second to some sides in the way they moved the ball , defended looked in general.
But we got the chocolates because we havd individual brilliance.
I could name the Saints game last year for an example.
Came away thinking the Saints played a better looking game but lost.
You know what though , the addition of say Gunston would have to add our team looking and playing like a team instead of blowing off players when they present a run towards the ball and just going long to a contest , and losing possession grrrr.
A few more wise heads this year , plus a defensive mentality hopefully see us play more like a champion tean .

I am starting to get exited for the year , started singing Take me Home to the place I belong etc., ( Hope that's still Charlie's song)

Yeah, I agree, but it's just someone's opinion. People's lives are 100% wrapped up in this, whereas we are simply casual observers.

Fages want nuts at Fish over something I think most of us thought was incredibly trivial. We only knew about that because it happened in front of witnesses. Millions of dramas go on like that all the time behind closed doors.
