McStay is a significantly better marker of the ball than Hipwood.

The difference is, Hipwood is ~7cm taller with a much longer reach.

Do you have any faith in Hipwood leading up to ball and taking a mark out in front?

The other point, which I’ve been saying for years, is that our game plan has been really poor in regards to our tall forwards creating space for each other, making false leads and opening space behind them.

It’s not unusual to see two, or all three of our talls, flying for the same ball, sometimes with Rayner coming over the back or from the opposite side.

Geelong and Richmond are far better at using their tall forwards to create space for each other, and still allow their smalls to pounce on loose balls.
Nothing made this clearer than watching the Eagles who were woreful last year still create big open spaces for their talls to lead into alone.

Rayner as the goal keeper stops a certain goal on the line after some pressure from the Swans in their F50.

Half time entertainment: Mighty Lions, it was me who flew off the handle re your comments about Michael whiting. I did so because your ‘some of his past’ comment looked not like an opinion on his journalism but an ambiguous, non-specific attack on him as a person on an anonymous forum where few, if any, participants would know him personally. I saw it and thought ‘what, did he poison a kindergarten picnic? Murder half a dozen ex-wives? Invaded the Sudetenland?’
Subsequent comments indicate you were talking about his football writing, in which case I was overreacting so I apologise. But maybe be a bit more careful with language. A harmless opinion can look like a cowardly smear which I now accept wasn’t the case.
Just for the record that's not how he explained why he didn't like him.

3QT. Lions pile on 5 unanswered and keep the Swans goal-less. Lions upped the pressure and the Swans just couldn't go with us.

Swans unable to score that quarter. Very good defensively from the lions and easily moving the ball out of defence for the most part.

Rayner with 2 intercept marks in 2 minutes. Looks a natural back there.

Gotta be honest, pretty bloody good. Still not a fan of it long term.

As I type just out-muscled heeney and took a good contested mark.
If we can afford the luxury of having him there it ups the potency of our defence considerably.

Rayner actually looking really solid down back. Finding the ball and making good decisions

I was ready to call it a failed experiment 10 minutes in when he fumbled the ball and flew for one he really shouldn't have, but have to admit it looks intriguing.

I still want him forward of centre though - at least we always have the option of throwing him on ball or into F50 if we need a spark.

Not an ideal start, as Cameron passed up a decent shot, turnover and Swans get one down the other end.
