Thanks. Doesn't seem to be hampering him and nor does he favour it as far as I've seen so maybe just keeping infection out of a grazed area or something.
He mentioned it in the presser he had yesterday. He was embarrassed to say the least. Luckily not as bad as it could've been. Don't need any silly off field injuries.

Hey Folks, only a short session today for me as I got there about 10:45 or so and clearly missed a chunk. No match sim that I saw so nothing exciting there. The last bit of what I saw was gut running drills so not a lot to report from that either.

I will say Noddy is clearly match quick and match fit but the drills aren’t his finest work. There’s nothing at all to worry about in terms of conditioning as in the ball drills he was all over the place but the up and back cone-to-cone work is not where he shines. There was one guy who was noticeably quicker when the light blue shirt of a coach was watching the running as opposed to an absence of those shirts. I won’t name him but it was clearly evident to me in the 15mins they were running.

Not participating in the drills when I was there were Pearce, Fyfe, Henry, Walters, JOM, Warner, Benning, Wagner and Emmett. There’ll be others too but those are the ones I know for sure. Benning was amongst some others (including Henry) doing some boxing and other conditioning work. The battle ropes and lat pull down machine were copping a flogging from some of the boys.

It’s also worth noting Benning was carrying a mild cork in his thigh/groin apparently picked up in the sim on Monday. Apparently, he picked it up just prior to the now infamous chase of Darcy. He’d apparently been on a long run coming off Darcy to make a contest and kill a move forward and whilst he made that contest, he got a knock in that area. Darcy was smart enough to move away from him as Benning recovered which caught Benning out by making a dangerous spot when the ball came out quickly again. That's from one of the conditioning guys. I think he may have had some extenuating circumstances in that highlight we saw. He was working hard today in the conditioning stuff I saw but I think they held him out of the running or he was in a group I didn't see.

Hayden Young is an interesting athlete to watch move. He can be quite stiff and almost awkward as he moves at times and yet at others he’s very smooth. Again, no issue at all but something I have noticed before and in the absence of bulk content today it makes the cut.

The drills they did today were pretty simple. A couple of groups doing the keep-it-off handball contest where each group tries to weave their way through the other finding room in a confined space via handball.

At the tree end of the ground on the outer side there was another group doing something similar but by foot with the coach in control of that drill sometimes making them use opposite foot and he also asked them a couple of times to challenge their own thinking and skills with options. It seemed to be about finding ways in too the F50 and then out of D50 through a heavy zone.

At the hospital end on the outer side there was a 1 on 1 drill matching defenders and forwards in a contest. It was about multiple leads and second/third efforts. A contest on the wide flank, run up to a cone, then push back hard to a contest with the ball delivered by a coach in a back lead scenario and then contest there. As I was on the opposite side of the ground to the action it was hard making out who was who but I did notice LJ & Noddy have some good wins. Noddy beat Clark back to the square in one contest and held his feet to get an open goal. Clarky not happy with himself on that one.

Closest to me when I arrived Johno, Erasmus, and Chappy were working with others I forget now on ground ball skills. I found it interesting/exciting to see Chappy working with a clear mid group. We know it’s a possible thing for him in the future but it was great to see him mix it with them and good to see him back in the boots.

They added Amiss, Draper, Freddy & Clark (I think) to that group in a later drill in the same area where a coach would kick to another coach who would spill the high ball to the ground and 2 of them would match up and contest the ground ball. Whoever won it would then drive out and kick to a spot inside forward 50. Chappy is not the most fluent looking kick as he almost pushes his head too far over the ball but I’m glad no one screwed with his action because it is accurate. It’s a particularly effective kicking style for low direct passes. Not many times did the receiving coach have to move far.

Clark was really good in these, so clean and good at taking the ball whilst also getting space away from being tackled. Johnson also stood out. He’s very active at the drop and aggressive to the ball. He made a contest every time by pushing past his opponent to try to get first hands on it. He caught Walker, Freddy and Ras out when the ball was seemingly coming straight to them by aggressively changing his angle and pushing forward to the ball. His aim wasn’t always to take possession but to make sure there was a second contest and he was set up to be in best possie then. Ras didn’t get caught out again and did the same thing thereafter to great effect.

Not surprisingly Draper was found out a bit in these drills given the people he was competing against but he did make Clark feel one contest more than Clary wanted too. He’s an agile unit for a big guy and he makes his presence felt in a physical contest.

The boys also did a goal kicking drill kicking towards the tree. They were all about 35-40 out in 3 groups kicking over the cutouts on the mark. 1 group directly in front, the other 2 groups either to the left or the right by about 10m. Everyone got involved in the kicking. Amiss didn’t miss, neither did Treacy or Sturt. Jackson was good too and Freddy is very confident and reliable. Switta is awkward but effective. Clark and Cox were both very solid too. Cox is still wearing a glove at the moment . He’s worn one in every session I’ve seen and I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned it before. Only on one hand (left I think). The end of this drill involved Freddy, Jackson and Cox all shooting for goal from 45 out 45 degree angle on the Freo side of the ground with the rest of the guys giving them the business to try to put them off. Freddy and Coxy were both 2/2 of the ones I saw, Jackson (who copped the most distraction effort) was 2/3.

After that they left the field and I had to go anyway. That's it from me Folks.

Epic report Wobbly.

You may have just saved Eric's career.

Thanks for clarifying that Benning injury - he's got so many terrific physical traits for a KPD IMO, hope he can put it all together

Now that Caleb is signed up for an additional 4 years, with Sturt, Corbett and Fyfe available as our mid sized forwards I wouldn't mind giving a mature pressure forward in Stubbs a crack on the list rather than Liam
I'm easy either way, but Sturt is an unknown for the long term. Love him to succeed though, and Wobbly highlights the following players in his excellent report.

Frederick Treacy Sturt
Switkowski Amiss Schultz

Pretty awesome. High upside there.

If Treacy is a possibility to leave at years end surely you keep Stubbs.

Whilst you are technically correct as 19 acquired along with pick 6 was the trade for Neale, the Lobb trade and what eventuated worked well for Freo.

In 2018 trade period Dockers sent picks 11 and 19 to the Giants in exchange for Lobb and picks 14, 43 and 47. They then packaged up picks 43, 47 and 55 to send to North Melbourne in exchange for pick 31 (so essentially 11, 19 > Lobb, 14, 31).

Lobb played 66 games for 79 goals between 2019-2022, remembering that he played predominantly ruck in year 1 due to injuries sustained by Darcy that year.

Then in 2022 trade period Fremantle traded Rory Lobb to WB for 30, F2 (tied to WB). They then traded that F2 along with Meek for JOM and pick 42 (after a subsequent trade using the F4 acquired from Hawks). Pick 42 was close to par for Meek (so essentially Lobb > 30, JOM)

So in Summary:
2018: 11, 19 > Lobb, 14, 31
2019-2022: 66 games (79 goals), first year played predominantly ruck
2022: Lobb > 30, JOM

To me that is good trade. Not quite in the Chris Mayne Compo for Brad Hill (and subsequent amaze balls trade of BHill that ended up resulting in Caleb Serong), but not far behind for mine.

The Neale trade was a win, the Lobb trade was a win but the Hogan trade was a massive disaster. Should have kept pick 6 (and the second rounder).

Our forward line woudlve been even worse without lobb for the last 3 years, you're right. 11 and 19 for 30 and JOM over 3 years hmm Jaeger could make that win

E Shed Training Report - 25/01/23
I meant to post this earlier but got distracted & been busy since. Practically everything I was going to say has been covered & much more detail besides but might as well leave my impressions.

popped in briefly & sat for a while under the fig trees. One of my absolute happiest places with the training going on & the promise of the season to come in the air.

During the time I was there the players were doing drills in small groups split up around the field. In the groups closest to me down towards the prison end The focus seemed to be on quick, instinctive ball movement entirely by foot over short to medium distance in different scenarios ranging from receiving a mark & switching to pinpointing a target in congested play.
At times the coaches would instruct the players to only use non preferred foot & at other times no talking was allowed (presumably to simulate when it’s so loud they can’t hear each other).

Overall I’d say the spirit & intensity was good & it was the exception to miss a target & players were noticeably annoyed if they did.

I didn’t recognize quite a few especially with hats & vests but of the ones I did I was impressed by
Serong - just does everything well, didn’t see him make a mistake & his intensity & focus are relentless.
Clark - ditto
Wilson - moved really well & his skills are outstanding.
Treacy - handles the ball so clean & his kicking over any distance is immaculate.
Chapman - seems to be everywhere. I think he catches my eye because of his distinctive posture & gait but his intensity is excellent. Did miss a few targets & was noticeably dark on himself.
Ryan was very upbeat, vocal & kicking the ball well.
Jackson does everything well & moves unbelievably well for a man his size.
Darcy looks in great Nick & his skills were excellent.
Johnson & Ras are really involved & looking up to the level.
Walker such a good mover & kicking really well.
Fred - look’s ready to take it up a level again. Could be anything.
Shultz looks incredibly fit & his skills have improved immensely since he came to the club.

All the players are kicking the ball low, flat & fast. Hardly a loopy kick all session.

I was so pumped I came home & renewed my membership! Very excited for this year.

Some great coverage for a basic session, awesome stuff.
Not much more you could add but maybe a few things I noticed.
Treacy is every bit of the 195cm the club list him at, must be because he’s so wide he just looks taller. Big relief as I worried if he was really the power KF we need after tabs.
Cox taking on the aggressive kicks on the D50 exiting drills and didn’t miss a target. very impressive
Colyer, some may question why he got another year.. But can see his value at a training session at least. Most vocal player out there today, was getting the boys inline and always encouraging and always working hard. Good to see the older bloke leading by example with so many younger guys out there today.
Draper very smooth mover, doesn’t look out of place at all. Look forward to seeing what he does at Peel this year.

And Corbett, as nice a bloke as advertised. Came and introduced himself and spent 5 minutes talking about how he’s loving his time and asking questions. Hope he does well !

Great effort. Geez Cox has received a lot of praise this preseason from watchers. His kicking really is a weapon now in my opinion.

I know NoD is his own man but what are you thinking young man?

Does anyone know what this is about?
Nothing wrong with a bit of individuality. The AFL and the world would be a boring place without colourful characters expressing themselves.

Just give me some time to make a fortune and I'll buy it off them, build a stadium seating there with apartments overlooking the ground. As soon as Freo has the capacity to seat 40,000 at our training ground we start making a fortune.

Lol. Your apartment owners will be NIMBY'S and cry about the noise.

lol damn looks like they were planning on making cockburn the highest density suburb in perth with all those mid rise apartments lmao guess they didnt realise nobody wants to live in ******* cockburn

They had an opportunity to make something but stuck 20 lanes of traffic through the guts - America 1950's. style.
