Team is in …

NO. CHANGES.

Sam Docherty will play his 150th game in the Navy Blue guernsey - the jumper he grew up wearing as a supporter - as Carlton looks to continue its strong run of form from recent months.

Last weekend’s sub, Ed Curnow is the sole omission from the Round 22 team: he has been named as one of four emergencies alongside Jordan Boyd (now available after suspension), Sam Durdin and Josh Honey. One of those four will be named as sub an hour before the bounce.

Cerra? Thought he’s 2-3????

Why is McKay a chance? Thought he’s out until finals?
By the time the bounce of the ball, these will have been the injury layoffs since their last game:

McKay 4 weeks
Cerra 2 weeks
Walsh 3 weeks
Silvagni 3 weeks
McGovern 2 weeks
Kennedy 5 weeks

Fogarty had a down game but Durdin doesn’t have any real body of work behind him, especially with the VFL bye, so hesitant to make that change.
Durdin was cherry ripe when he appeared in the VFL, then nicked his shoulder. Should be right to go.

Fog had 4 touches, 4 tackles, 3 turnovers. If Durds is fit he takes his spot on that performance.

Never suggested he will play this year, but has been on the track for some time
Not that it matters, but I'm not understanding then. He would barely be back to straight line running atm 6 months post surgery.

Regardless if we have Walsh and Cerra I think we genuinely give any team a shake right now other than Brisbane. For whatever reason their ball movement has always seemed to trouble us.

I am much more confident we will win a game of footy when Pitt and TDK are both in the side. Even if they play pretty poorly, i am still more confident the team will win the game of footy.

With our clearance strength, we just need a committed contest by a proper ruck for 100% of the game between them. If one or both actually play well, we are really hard to beat.

With all of our known strengths, and our ever improving role players, and taking into account our known weak areas, i really like to see a few things and the rest takes care of itself pretty much.

2 rucks - Pitto and TDK.
At least 3, and hopefully 4 of our elite runners - Walsh, Cottrell, Hollands and Acres.
2 of Gov, Kemp and Marchy to complement Weitering.
The good Jack Martin.

IMO don't think any of the following will be good to go, McKay, Cerra, McGovern, SOS, Walsh or Kennedy...

Out: Kemp (rest), E.Curnow
In: Big Durdin, Boyd Sub: take your pick...

FB: Newman - Durdin - Weitering
HB: Boyd - Marchbank - Saad

C: Acres - Cripps - Hollands
F: Pittonet - Cuningham - Hewett

HF: Cottrell - Curnow - Martin
FF: Motlop - TDK - Owies

B: Dow, Docherty, Fisher, Cincotta, Fogarty

Fog has been great over recent weeks with his pressure, but was very quiet today. Just the 4 touches. Think Corey Durds plays next week.

Marchy was poor today, just not up to the level atm. Boyd should play against dees, will provide more run and gun.

Ed back to the two's.

If Kemp does not come up, then depending on match up's whether we bring in Sam Durds or maybe Cow.

IMO, Melbourne are the team to beat this year. They are quietly doing what they need to do. If we are to beat them, we will need some players back.
A good start would be SoS to assist Charlie and Walsh to go into the middle. This will be an interesting match for us.
Might have to play acres up there ala caddy for Richmond in 2017. Been screaming out for him to play up forward as a 3rd tall. He’s brimming with confidence too so he’ll love the opportunity to kick more snags.

When we are full, Pitto definitely off..

Traditional Rucks are overrated, we win games and clearances even when we get dominated in hit outs.

Pittonet is just too slow for this new style we’re playing and doesn’t take enough contested marks to justify his height advantage. Still can’t believe we signed him on for 4 years…

Silvagni is more effective as a double edged sword, tall enough to help ruck duties , but also sneaky enough to get a ground ball off the pack and run into the goal square.

Also takes a better contested mark than Pittonet

I’m not a huge fan of either but SOS suits our structure a lot more.

Along with a fit McKay , pitto will definitely be a surplus to requirements and
Let’s be honest here, he isn’t a top ten ruck in the comp

I agree with this. Pitto does try to add some physicality, but he's no where near as damaging as TDK, Harry or JSOS.

Only one who I think we might get back is Walsh and of course Boyd, back from suspension. These two will provide a lot more speed and over-lap.

Game will be one and lost in the guts, like just about every other game these day's. Oliver will apparently be back for them.

Had a look on the dees thread, some are saying Schache will come in for the injured Petty. Tomlinson and Hibberd are being talked up as possible inclusions.

This game looks to me now like a fifty-fifty affair. Coming down to the gee for this. Bring on Saturday night, I cannot wait.

Pitto is insurance, contract makes sense as he is on modest money. With big Mirk looking more likely a bust and young O'Keefe, promising as he is. He does not have the body yet and is probably two years away from having the required bulk to compete at the highest level.

Yeah I love Durds but this has me conflicted. Fog has been V Good until today and provided a lot of forward line pressure. Wouldn't like to see him dropped over 1 bad performance. We will need strong bodies and lots of pressure against Melbourne.

Nothing against Marchbank, called it back before he was selected, i think some people are going by what type of player he possibly was and might have been, he is miles off actually being a modern day footballer who lacks has many of the requirements as a modern day defender…
Sounds harsh, games gone past him, he’s a liability…

He seems half a step off the pace at AFL, I agree. But I think his assets are well suited to a modern day defender? He is a good intercept mark and can kick decently enough. He has nailed a couple of kicks inside 50 in his games.

Marchbank definitely has the tools - elite intercept defender at his best. I certainly hope they keep playing him so that he’s up to speed come finals.

To that end, I’m willing to cop a few rusty games, considering how little footy he’s played at senior level.

He also did some good things in the match.

Not at all good one on one, and that’s just on the third talls he gets well out bodied and positioned, doesn’t impact defensively as a tall defender with the incoming forward ball he can’t defensively defend in the air by spoiling or impacting contests…
He is slow in most areas by thought process, hes decision making is slow and average, he has really ordinary spatial awareness and decision making…
People who actually thought he was going to be a any type of a KPD prospect should realize he is nowhere near that level, i understand he has missed a fair bit of footy but he just doesn’t unfortunately possess the right fundamentals to be a player at this level anymore..

I’ll put my hand up if im wrong 👍
