I thought so too but why was his starting position at centre clearances behind his opponent, get front spot and back Pitto to put it in your hands

Probably smart for him being slower, if he’s inside his opponent and the ball flicks to the outside he’ll probably get burnt on the spread whereas from behind he can apply instant body pressure and hopefully hold it up or he can muscle his opponent out of the way.

It can also just be what each player feels comfortable with.

I don't want to decide who is in or out.....
Just this is the first time I have seen Carlton genuinely thrash a team for 15 yrs

It rests my soul since MM days and what followed....
The midfield was imbalanced, now it might be OK........all of a sudden Hewett lifts and the pace lifts
With Doc,Saad,Williams going one of greatest HBs in the comp
We need motlop to be great to help talls plus a fit Martin n Fish
If mids can dominate again and Pitto or even Mirk or TDK......becoming a grade
we have genuine finals plans going forward

Cottrell. If you want to watch what you’ll get if he plays seniors then just go to the afl app. Watch the lead up to his goal in the final quarter.

Mind blowing stuff. Tracked back hard deep into D50. Smothered. Got on his bike. SPRINTED and somehow got ahead of a fast moving ball in transition. Got on the end of a pass then calmly slotted one from 50.

That single play showed me all I need to know. He’s def in same shape as he was last year and he played 18 games.

Straight in. No risks in my view. Hollands needs a break.
I've been waiting for him to come in and replace Fisher in the HHF role.

Who's Boyd replace? With Cinc and Kemp now in the side, I think we have pretty good balance. Unless Doch move further up the ground permanently.

If we are going to beat the strategy of the Pies we need to get every quick player into the side we can.

If he has to play Ed Curnow’s role then fine by me.

Adelaide invented new ways to lose today.

Agree with what you say. But my sole issue with him is the short steps he sometimes takes.
My issue is that he calls for the ball in the most stupid of positions. I lost track of how many times he did it last night. He does it every week, calls for it when he's not in a safe position and thankfully last night he was ignored a few times.

He just reminds of when I used to do schoolyard playground duty and the grade 6 kids would be playing footy and there'd be a grade 3 kid in there trying to show them how good he is.

So true.

I said to my wife last night, he’s playing like an old school CHF.
Playing the old style lead up CHF... just needs to sort out his kicking for goal. But then again. If Charlie doesn't fire one night, and H does... it doesn't matter.

One thing that really stood out in this win is Pitto's form, he's playing a lot better now and was key to our midfield dominance. Who were the people who wanted to get rid of him, again? Imagine if we have Young, JSOS or TDK as lone ruck... sheesh.
His best game for us by far.

His was great tapping to advantage .. very strong when in dispute.

I can confirm that the margin or satisfaction didn’t change after a second viewing. 😁

Well balanced team with Saad, Doc, Kemp & Cinc. Cotts would be another great addition.

And Kennedy as sub worked well.

This could be the catalising result that shapes the next phase of the season for the team. Bring on the next five rounds.
Fingers bloody crossed

I actually think that Boyd would probably be eyeing off Fisher's spot.

Zac really isn't playing forward very much. I think he starts there, but immediately pushes up the field and positions himself as a wide outside receiver in general play. You're as likely to see him down back as up forward.

I'd have it as Boyd and Owies chasing Fisher's spot, Boyd with the additional flexibility to cover a backline out. Dunno if either of them are "ready" yet, and an injury or suspension to someone else in R8 could open the door for them in R9 with Fisher keeping his spot.

Cottrell should replace Ed as the defensive forward/wing rotation as soon as he's ready.

Motlop should be straight back in for Honey next week, unless they want to reward the team performance and give Motlop a sneaky kick up the backside with a reserves game. Never hurts to remind those young guys that their spot has to be continually earned.

Binns just biding his time and waiting for Hollands to get rested or Acres to miss.

Pluses for me outside of the obvious stand out players:

Better ball movement. Amazing how it‘s easier to score when you move the ball quicker.

Saad and Doc back, see above.

Cincotta.

Kemp.

Pitt’s work around the ball ups.

George’s work in close.

Thought Honey contributed more although will be interesting to see if he gets another shot at it next week.

Not sure there will be many changes unless someone is sore. Also not sure I would put Mots straight back in tbh.

Curious to see if Cotts and Boyd can get into the side soon.
I really hope they persist with Honey.

He’s a one touch confidence player.

Building without a doubt.

I can see a dynamic small power forward in him - we don’t have one yet.

Circa - Degoey, Green, Heeney etc…

We could use one …

I just don't see the game sense and smarts in Honey that those guys possess.

Athletic attributes, sure. He's got good vision when the ball is in his hands.

But there's a big difference between the natural, instinctive, clever forward specialists and the ones who look great when the ball falls in their path, but struggle to make good position by anything other than happenstance.

Happy to hold onto Honey and keep developing him, but a quality half forward should be top of our off-season shopping list.

Suspect that the way to beat the Pies is going to be beating them up physically. Need to risk a rough conduct suspension or two.

Think back to what we did to Geelong when we played them - crunched them in brutal tackles, knees to the head in marking contests - made them question the cost of contesting the ball. That's what I want to see when we play Collingwood.

I do think he’s got footy smarts.

One play from last night showed it. Running towards goal from the pocket he has time to consider taking a shot, size up his other options and execute a lovely touch kick to SOS for a goal.

Another HFF wouldn’t go astray…
