He is a gem, I just wish The media and footy would call him by his proper Japanese name Mitchito instead of Mitch. Granted maybe he feels more comfortable being called Mitch, but surely Aussie society and culture has progressed enough to allow people from different family and racial backgrounds to no longer 'Anglo-Size' their name ?

He is an absolute ripper of a player though and right now I have him 2nd favourite to win it after Sheezel. Just a classy player.
Yet you called him Mitchito…

Well deserved. How’s he tracking besides that game?

Slow build to this season.

Was flying in pre-season but got injured just before round 1. Came back through our WAFL team and seems to be playing a role up forward for us at the moment.

Long term would still like to see him go through the midfield, Ginbey (191) and Culley (194) will be wrecking balls for us and love a tackle.

Going to keep pumping him up. Mitch is a real chance of taking home the whole thing I think.

Not a knock at all on the kid I think he is a beauty but is he really playing as a Key forward? This is the exact type of stat that makes champion data not all that credible IMO.

I would imagine that the output from most 19-20 yo key forwards would be very very small so we are comparing the stats of a 191 Forward/Mid who pushes up and plays as a High forward to a 195-200 cm Key marking forward who plays quite deep.

Don't get me wrong saints fans you have a beauty but the 127% above key forward average from his age group is a poor stat to use.

Yep. Justin Westhoff was considered an elite key forward by Champion Data for basically his whole career, but that wasn't because he was an elite key forward, it was because he was a tall bloke who rotated between the forward line and the midfield or loose man in defence.

He's playing as either the 1st or 2nd marking target inside 50 so that's probably why he's being categorised as a key forward. I honestly don't know how to feel about it, its kinda hard to define what type of forward he is atm.

Majority of the time he is playing as a legitimate key forward, albeit very high most of the time.

Comparing him to other 20 year old key forwards though is pretty silly considering most of them aren't that hybrid style of key forward, they almost need to specify archetypes of players for Champion Data to rate them accordingly

Yeah, you are right.

Mitch doesn't play like a typical key forward because he's basically a tall (191cm) big-bodied mid who's as strong as an ox, is an excellent contested mark, and has a good goal sense.

The first tweet is probably the more insightful of the two, the fact no other player in the competition has won more contested possessions outside of stoppage is quite something. (This would be things like contested marks, 1v1 ground ball wins against a defender etc)

I agree with the query re the key forward classification. It would be interesting to see his numbers on that metric as a general forward. I imagine they would still be very high. He looks amazing the way he's playing.

And goal of the year. Freakish goal.
Ashcroft wins Goal of The Year and Sheezel wins the Rising Star Award. Sounds fair to me. :)
