I suspect the form of Cerra has also indirectly resulted in the dropping of Kennedy.

Cripps, Cerra, Walsh now clearly our 3 best mids. Playing Hewett and Kennedy as mids 4-5, neither of whom has a 2nd position forces us to rotate Cerra and Walsh (who are more versatile) off the ball more then we'd like to accommodate them.

We can't really afford to be doing that. Would be the same with Dow which is why we never bring him in.

Doch as 5th mid can play the majority of the game at halfback and go onball when we need him to cover rotations. We don't have to move other players out of position to accommodate him.

He’s not going to learn anyhting olaying vfl. He’s a very flexible player. I’d be horrified if he isn’t sub.
For mine, Kennedy would be a wasted sub...his fresh legs later in the game aren't going to be quick

I want Fisher dropped, but I could cope with Fisher being sub. His fresh legs may be more impactful later in the game than Kennedy's

Kennedy is clearly a top 20 player at the club. Yet either he or Hewett didn’t fit.

Voss has always ‘picked the best players and found them a spot’.

FINALLY Voss changed his approach.

First time I’ve seen it. A big step in the right direction for the club.

Wasn't the whole thing when Voss first started the opposite of this? That he was quite keen on playing players in set positions rather than the best 22 players which Teague was extremely guilty of.

I remember there being videos of him talking about it, i.e. we have two inside mid positions, wingers play wing, mids don't get carted off to half forward etc.

they do have a secondary position

kennedy fwd hewett back

Why?

Because he couldn't play a position he's never played?

Because the coaching group in all their wisdom, couldn't see that he is a much much much better mid/HF/3rd forward?

Because the aforementioned coaching group can't see that he is a good mark overhead, is a neat and accurate kick and has footy nous

Because our fwd line is laden with so much talent and they're really sharing the goal kicking load that he is superfluous to needs

Regardless of whether he is a late in or the sub, his demotion is man-management negligence
It's just a good sign that Voss is prepared to concede that his teams are too slow through the guts and is prepared to change. Could have been George and Ed's next in the crosshairs, Docs a better option and not needed down back.
Someone has to make way for this team to compete with the opponents we're facing in the next month.

What about Dow. Explosive!
Doesn’t look good for Dow which I’m a bit depressed about. Not sure what is going on…Id hate to see him leave blues.

I’m happy that some positive changes are being made though…kemp In while cinc remaining in is a good sign. Hope to see more changes over coming weeks.

It absolutely was. He was as strong on that as any coach in the AFL which is why it's odd he veered away from it this year.

Thank you for the time taken to do the analysis. It has opened my eyes and changed my opinion of Pitto's performances.

Our inside middies clearly aren't working smart enough or fast enough if we have so many hit outs to our advantage. I was blaming Pitto's performances rather than our mids.
Thanks again.

for the absence of any doubt - this is not a video I made...but a better expposition of Pittonet's value I have not come across.

Yep the other thing was selection integrity he was really hot on and how everyone started afresh with a clean slate with him with no baggage.

And now the treatment of Dow and seemingly some favourites (which I suppose every coach has) is tenous at best.

Really weird how those two principles have shifted so dramatically in the space of 12 months.

But in his favour he is one of the best marks of all the mids, shocking that he was outted before Ed
I hope Ed retires after this season but atm Ed is more dynamic and can run all day…butchers it a bit but I’d say they want his run and tagging ability more than anything else

Kennedy has no pace no burst and no tank…can’t play afl these days without a tank or pace playing in non key positions.

any other opinions….

we’ve got 8 defenders in so one must be playing elsewhere?

kemp in mid/fwd?

doc in mid?

cinc in mid/fwd?
I would be a bit stunned if they don’t go back to Doc playing his centre bounce, defensive mid / defender role.

Cincotta hasn’t played a minute anywhere but back at vfl level this year. Played well there last week. Would not expect a change.

MCG doesn’t seem capable of sprinting flst out often enough to provide a viable 3rd tall forward option.

Kemp has played predominantly defender but has been thrown forward a few times to some effect.

Most likely mix:
Saad Weiters young kemp mcg Newman Cincotta

Mid: doc Cerra (one sweeping sonewhat back) Cripps walsh Hewett acres hollands l. Gives 5 Centre square rotations and a little more oace and run.

Ruck: Pitto

Forwards: Charlie Ed fisher honey McKay sos durdin

Sos and young to provide ruck cover a little each.

I thought he had a pretty good year last year and his tank would have been alright for the position. Our mids certainly have the heat on them at the moment, strange after the year that group had last year

Exactly and we drafted him

In fairness George last year was one of the best value recruits in the AFL. Averaged almost 30 touches, top 8 in the afl for clearances, top 5 in our b&f off 15 games. Was our best mid in round 1 this year then hurt his hand and has struggled for form since returning.

We got him as a free agent for only moderate money. I am not willing to call that one a loss just yet.
