As a Crows supporter, you would be happy only paying out the final year of a coaches contract.
Compared to what we have done regularly in the past

Unfortunately its an imperfect science. A coach can look a million dollars one year then look like a carton of VB by the end of the next. The key is to not jump on gifting long term extensions for one good season. In Nicks case, the crows offered an extension that was one year too long. Hopefully if they extend they limit it to a one year extension. In fact the AFL should make two year contracts the norm for coaches and then one year extensions if a year to run on the current contract.

It's more about the management of the club understanding where the coach is at with his players.
In the past, we have been pretty poor at that.
I'm confident that we will improve greatly for Nicks to secure his job.

Yet surprisingly, over the last three years our sub-50 game players have played more AFL (25% more than the next highest) than any of the other 17 teams. We are also number one for the least games played by 100+ game players.

Our winning methods will be studied for years. Those last 3 years… whooo wee

I don’t find it surprising

maybe surprising from those who keep pushing out the narrative that Nicks should go and he is not investing in youth

we are still very young in age and games, and the fact that we are in a position to challenge next year for finals given our list profile should be recognised

After 6 years out of finals, we should be cheering that, maybe, the wheel might be turning?

Everyone seems pretty convinced our forward line is much better with Mcadam. Is it really? Genuine question. What was the average score with/without McAdam this year?
McAdam biggest weapon is his aerial supremacy, if he doesnt take a big mark, he is bringing that ball to ground. Importantly its not being marked/intercepted by a defender and that opens door for our small forwards to crumb and take advantage. Its a stat that really cant be measured. Not to mention when the ball is on the ground, McAdam creates forward pressure, which is another stat too which is not easy to measure.

Anyone who has watched our forwardline closely when McAdam is in the side would see this.

Our forward line with McAdam reminds me of ours in 2017, it had so many different skillsets by various sized and mobile players which made it lethal.

Genuine question. When is the last time a club has granted a one year extension to a coach both under our situation (improving steadily year on year, finals quality team this year, best record against top 4 teams), or even ANY situation?

perhaps I am just getting forgetful but don’t recall.

It’s a not full rebuild, it’s a failed light refresh
Sorry, but that's just completely not true.

I've seen you turn yourself in knots trying to come up with a version of events that makes this seem plausible, but it's just a lot of effort to present something that just doesn't pass the common sense test.

You just know mchenry will be McAdams replacement.

We've got enough scoring power there with fog TT tex rankine and Pedlar. That needs to be offset by our big time pressure forwards murphy and mchenry

That's were we came on the pessimists ladder.

Finished 4th to bottom and still only got pick 9 :(

This is why Nicks needs to be sacked.
Haha, yep well captured mate. THATS absolutely the collective mentality of that side of posters. We all know who they are…

i (thankfully) naturally and positively (“happy clapper” style :) ) see us as a top 8 quality side (literally top 8 without the worst umpiring mistake for over a decade), who had the second hardest draw, played the MOST amount of top 4 teams at end of minor round (7 of a possible 8), whilst also having the BEST record against the top 4 teams in absolute and relative terms. You would have be a numbnut to argue we are nowhere near it. Commentators this year thought we could win the whole thing. Did any other team kick 7 goals to 0 in a quarter against the Premiers - at their home ground- completely emb them with another win due with any form of impartial 50/50 umpiring from the insects in the last quarter. Bad kicking possibly cost us over 5 games this year. focus on this and we ended up with 4-2 or 3-3 of the close games. We aren’t far away here unlike the prevailing pessimists mind sets

All this with a bottom quartile (actually bottom 2 or 3 I believe) team based on both age and experience. The most youngsters stepping up since early 90’s to show probable / very likely elite players into the future inc Rankine, Rachele, Soli, Max, Pedlar, Worrell, Murray. Jones clearly best year looks likely to get even better as a wing/hbf, Hinge moving towards elite as a mid age player. Dawson showing elite mid for years to come. TT has shown enough at times (5 in first showdown) to be our elite big man but am expecting a much bigger jump next couple of years. All this with our probable best ever draft hand this year, abundance of picks next year with Welsh and Max Jnr to come and a likely 2-3m in TPP to throw around to snag another 2-3 elite players over coming years.

Lastly, at the top 10 B&F and these probable elite players into the future hardly feature. They are just getting started with the best a few years still down the track.

How anyone can be downbeat or depressed after the year just gone….I just can’t relate to it (thankfully).

The Crows are coming

That side, downbeat, depressed, doing it again aren’t you.

Tell me who is downbeat and depressed about our year?

How exactly do you come to this conclusion when, in McAdam's absence, he started 4 whole games this season?

mate you are smart enough and spend enough time on here to know who they are. Also I am not into bullying “naming and shaming” posters as per the discussion the other day. I find your posts can be overly critical at times but have a semblance of balance and in my earlier comment your name wasn’t one that jumped immediately to mind (not that you would care either way).

enjoy the day mate, heading out on the kayak shortly then some whale watching and white pointer spotting :)

That sounds like fun but you’re taking criticism of some club decisions as being downbeat and depressed about the season and that’s just wrong. That only applies to how were robbed against Sydney.
