I think we keep Keane for 2025 no matter what, and make a decision then.
We could get a pick for him going, and get Petty for free.

I don’t think we’d get pick compensation for Keane if we let walk as a FA (assuming he was delisted by the Pies?), and then Petty comes in the doorI think we keep Keane for 2025 no matter what, and make a decision then.

Do we get a choice if he wants to go?I think we keep Keane for 2025 no matter what, and make a decision then.

Yes, contracted until the end of 2025.Do we get a choice if he wants to go?
Is he even contracted past this year?
979800 can’t handle not being cartel worthy and doesn’t know the distinction between having a conversation and a source.Nah he didn’t
So if there is a deal to be done we have the upper hand. Normally doesn't end well.Do we get a choice if he wants to go?

Completely agreeI think we keep Keane for 2025 no matter what, and make a decision then.

If you’ve got any evidence to the contrary I’m all ears.Is that when he went 0-3 and then made up a sauce?
I’ll do it for you.If you’ve got any evidence to the contrary I’m all ears.

Disagree. If you don’t understand that, you need to try a bit harder. A 24 year old in a new city with no family or friends outside work exploring moving somewhere that he knows he has a community. Whether the rumour is true or not, the concept itself makes perfect sense.
Yep the one thing that seems unfair to criticise the club is the culture of retaining players Nicks has built. Its VERY different to the 4-5 years where we lost Brackets Mc G, CC, Lever, Danger and friends. How on earth do you blame the club for this one?? They had the balls to give him a 2 year contract based of limited game time last year. As previously mentioned, his connection to Collingwood is very strong, and trust me when i say his 'glam' missus is probably behind a fair bit of that. She probably made connections in what is a much larger Irish community in Melbourne, and if she's the socialite i think she is.
If he wants to go this year the Pies will have to pay for him, and whoever offers him a deal next year, if his form continues to rise, will have to fork out a decent contract, and that will result in a decent compensation pick for us. Keane has done very well this year, but we are stacked for talent in the backline, and letting him leave next year could potentially coincide with Petty coming into Free Agency.
No need to panic.
If you’ve got any evidence to the contrary I’m all ears.
None of that is evidence though, we got the full story, doubt he’s going to post that in here though. You can walk back through the original thread.
Outlandish predictions - the best being Matty Wright was being forced by the club to lie about Murphy's SANFL performance so the club could justify his selection - then after they were 100% wrong there was suddenly a source and a secret group chat.
Depends if we think we can change his mind by the time his contract is upWhy keep him to then lose him at uncontracted value? Next year we’ll have Murray, Butts, Worrell, Borlase and Curtin to select our tall backs from. Unless you think we genuinely contend for a flag with him in 2025 but we won’t without him.

Why would Keane be a free agent? Are you thinking lifelong free agent due to delisting, like Stengle?I don’t think we’d get pick compensation for Keane if we let walk as a FA (assuming he was delisted by the Pies?), and then Petty comes in the door
Would be good to get clarification on if it’s a different scenario for retirees who come back
Yeah exactlyWhy would Keane be a free agent? Are you thinking lifelong free agent due to delisting, like Stengle?
We'll get **** all for him contracted or uncontracted. Why keep him to then lose him at uncontracted value? Next year we’ll have Murray, Butts, Worrell, Borlase and Curtin to select our tall backs from. Unless you think we genuinely contend for a flag with him in 2025 but we won’t without him.
He retired. He still had a year left on his contract with Collingwood but was homesick.Yeah exactly
Would need to check if 1) Keane officially retired or was delisted, and 2) if a retirement doesn’t count towards lifelong free agency
Wasn't McDonald completely right though? He was the one saying all the "Daniel Curtin no matter what" stuff way before there was even a sniff of that happening.I’m emotional but there was one, the Ronald McDonald fella, but mostly because he was sprouting a whole lot of shit so hard to take him seriously, oh and there was Faith but he was a clear bullshit artist
Pies seem to have been fair at the trade table since Graham Wright has been there. They seem to target a player and get the trade done quickly with a minimum of fussYep the one thing that seems unfair to criticise the club is the culture of retaining players Nicks has built. whats fair compo if he wants out this year? Pies are often recent masters of bargain basement buys - Norm Smith Medalist for their 2nd rounder in their flag year, Lipinski (pick 43), Mitchell (2 picks after 41). Paid up for Schultz though with 1st rounder 2024.
Not sure we are as flushed for KPD and IMO Keane is only behind Murray. Already better and more upside than Butts and Borlase. Retention allows us to try Murray as a swingman and be that pack crashing forward who would scare the bejesus out of oppo defenders.
Surely we keep him unless we get overs. Lets be pricks like everyone is towards us and not cave on this one and then hopefully throw big bucks if needed next year to cover for his supposed MLB preference. Things could change next year especially if we have a good season. As I have said a trillion times unfortunately Adelaide the city is out biggest structural disadvantage long term for young players wanting a larger, vibrant metropolis. There's nothing we can do about it besides disproportionately drafting country lads from interstate or SA boys.
Second question still validHe retired. He still had a year left on his contract with Collingwood but was homesick.
Meanwhile you just sold your usual doom and gloom conjecture off as a rumour for the Port game. A "rumour" that was found to be so entirely and utterly wrong that it's almost like it never had any credibility to begin with.
