Might (will) shed a tear or two if we make a prelim. Honestly. Won’t be having a crack at going to the Gabba if we do, as I’ll be in NZ until day before Grand Final Eve. Planned the trip thinking we won’t be in September. I’ve made my peace with that this week.

One week at a time. I agree in that we should try and find some more run and overlap this week, especially if they’re sore and sorry at the moment. I thought we tried changing angle a bit but too many dump kicks.
Midfield is important as ever, but even more important are i50 deliveries and a organised defence again to hurt from turnover on rebound. I think Gawn, Oliver and Petracca all are on the ground come 7.50 Friday.

Marchbank is another player that we may want to consider dropping out, Melbourne are not exactly tall in the forward half and adding some more run and carry, might help break the lines.

Don't think we want to disrupt the defence too much from last week do we?

Given their smallish forward line however, I wouldn't be surprised if either Kemp or Marchy play that defensive forward role on Jake Lever.

Ins & Outs: I'm thinking it's a simple case of like for like here.

JSOS coming back would have to be near certain given his role is often a combination of Harry & Jack Martin's.
MOTLOP comes into the 22 and is planted at the feet of Charlie, TDK & JSOS.

(Big game required from Mots & Owies who have both been quiet)

Dow (sub). Loved his clearance work against Melbourne last month.

Kennedy for Cuningham could also be an option.

Don't know if anyone saw the SEN footage of Dwayne and Gerard calling the key moments of Fridays game.

Gerard was in the back seat doing special comments and the grimace on his face when Doc kicked the first goal was priceless.

Must say - Gerard and Dwayne were great - really talked up Carlton, the crowd and the atmosphere.

I cannot understand so many people wanting Dow to be Sub
In the main the Sub does not get on until Q4
What don't people understand about him having the highest CB Clearance %
I would like to see that for 4 quarters not just one
Pretty sure he has played the sub role very well and with a warm night forecast, and this is likely to be a close tough game the sub role is important & selecting a Hollands or a Dow that can provide some real run with fresh legs from mid 3rd quarter cannot be underestimated.

I was surprised when they loaded you in on top of me. Need to upgrade my ambulance subscription to private conveyance.

There was security footage of the incident apparently…

Bit of Black Death, low impact and both clear to watch Blues this week

If there were a bucket load of lemons in that commentary box Gerard Healy and Brad Johnson sucked them all.

Coach feel free to tell us who you are dropping and what other changes you would make because the two players coming out are a key forward and 3rd tall/hybrid forward. It requires a restructure to replace one with an inside mid.

JSOS and Motlop are as close to like for like changes as we are going to get, and the coaching staff have shown they would prefer to replace like for like. Dow would be next in line to come in as sub.

It is easy to say "I can't believe you guys are suggesting X" but not providing a fully thought out alternative for us.

It will be interesting to see if we end up using the complete opposite tactics vs Melbourne as we did vs Sydney. We wanted a contested game along the congested MCC members wing vs Sydney - backing in our talls vs theirs, and our contested game vs theirs, without letting them getting their superior outside run going.

No McKay, May/Lever on the other side, and Melbourne's stronger contested game makes forcing the game down the line suicide. Going to have to run and carry, switch, and spread the ground.

SOS is a natural in and can cover both McKay and Martins roles.

For the other in, I'd prefer we went with a run with player to sit on one of Petracca or Oliver if they get off the chain.

With Brayshaw out, if we can nullify one of those two, we'll go a long way to winning.

Kennedy or Ed Curnow seem the natural fits for this role. Hollands maybe, but he's not strong or crafty enough for the tagging role.

Reading a lot of comments about tweaking our defensive structure or moving magnets around with Harry and Jack (likely) out.

I can't see Vossy or the MC changing things up drastically now that we essentially have our best 22 (H and JM aside) to pick from.

Given the structure and his 'test' on the injury sheet, I think its 100% time for JSOS to return. The club needs Silvagni in a final on the biggest stage and he is - in my mind - still best 22 when fit (has been for years).

The second spot has more conjecture. Had Martin not been missing, I'd be tempted to bring Jesse back in for Cunners for a full game. But seeing as Jack's a shoe in to miss at least this Friday night... it will be a toss up between:
  • Motlop for a full game, moving Fog and Cunners up the ground a little more
  • Kennedy as the best mid/fwd replacement, but big call given time missed
  • or Paddy, who would cause more magnets to shift
  • Fish another option but think he's made way for Marchy now who's not getting dropped after last week
I still think it'll be simple:
  • Harry out for JSOS
  • Martin out for Motlop
  • Dow to sub
Remaining emergencies to then be Hollands, Fisher and Kennedy.

Don't change a winning formula or get too cute with guys who've played good football over the past month in their best position.

This side can (and I believe will) beat Melbourne on Friday night.

No way we're dropping Marchadona for this one...

Marchy was great on the weekend. I wouldn't rule it out though, he came in for Swans 3 talls, it was a great decision and he played well.

Have to base the team around the opposition, and if the Dees are extremely small (or the talls they have can easily be covered by Kemp, Weitering & Gov) then having another runner/rebounder is a net gain.

That being said, I think they'll bring Turner in and we'll stick with the structure from last week.
