We have a team full of AFL listed players today & weā€™re still struggling against a lowly ranked VFL side.

There were some reasonable signs in that quarter - but still hard to find anyone (apart from McAndrew and maybe HHK) to get really enthused about.
Agree but only saw some of the 2nd Q.

thought Rankin was ok - more involved than usual. Corey W ainā€™t a mid. RJ still looks rusty to me, Not much else from the AFL listed blokes. Thought Nick Shipley again looked the best of the VFL listed players.

Stephens looks a lot better when he is trying to win the ball instead of holding his width. Isnā€™t a pure outside player and itā€™s not getting the most out of him.

He was a inside/ hybrid midfielder who could run from congestion as a kid.

Yes his got brilliant endurance, but the hybrid role will be his natural game

Totally agree. I wanted to draft him and had many an argument about him having an inside game.

It seems to me that the reserves have been badly effected by our injuries. But we do not seem to have the depth to replace listed players. Not only that our listed young lads do not seem to be improving. If anything they seem to have gone backward. These are not obversations from watching but looking at results and ratings.

Can I ask the Resies Watchers what is wrong? Is it coaching? Are the replacements to listed players not up to it? Are the young listed players not up to it? We seem to lack depth would this be correct?

We have yet to win a reserves game and this bodes badly if you have injuries. Just ask Port Adelaide who had a bottom reserves team last year and struggled with injury. We are struggling now due to the same.

Three primary observations:

1. The VFL side has no genuine inside mids. Sheldrick had 39 last week, but heā€™s not playing - and now with the exception of Stephens, our mids are either top-up players or skinny kids. Hardened VFL players just bully them off the pill.

2. Some of the young draftees arenā€™t showing a lot (yet). But you donā€™t get a lot of time - theyā€™d want to start demonstrating some upside soon.

3. Losing becomes a habit.

The worrying thing is that we currently lack depth in all parts of the ground. Even Melican and Gould have been beaten today. Our forward line lacks targets except HHK & heā€™s no pack marking target.
