I said it on the game day thread but I am starting to think the Swans cut too deeply in the last few years when delisting players. Maybe not all of them but I think we should have some guys like Brand, Taylor, Grey and Bell on the list. Now ideally these guys will not play many games, but it is good to have them just in case and importantly they can play in the VFL week in week out and that means our other young players will be in a winning VFL team which will be good for their development rather than being smashed every week like they are now.

Agree. There is little leadership in the 2's. I thought Bell and Taylor when in the reserves were great infield leaders. Surely a swans reserves player would get paid better than a SANFL player?

Donā€™t know that we will see any early extensions of our last draft class. Almost halfway through the season and none of them have shown much at all to date (Vickery maybe one game).
Konstanty is probably the one Iā€™m getting a bit down on.

Very interrupted start to the season - but not a lot to get enthused about yet.

The others just look ordinary.

Fair, without being outstanding.

Hard for the backs when the opposition just streams through the mids & delivers i50 with little pressure.

I think he probably did enough for a recall if Tommy Mac isnā€™t back.

Cheers. Good point, even our normal KPDs struggle when that occurs at AFL level. If Francis can take the biggest oppo fwd, I think Melican could do a decent job v 2nd biggest fwd.

Hall-Kahan (I can't say his name normally anymore - damn you Donza) & Rankin were the standouts for mine.

Hall-Kahan is crafty and made some really smart plays that showed great instincts. Also seemed like his opponents were nervy around him, which is a promising sign given that any senior opportunity for him would almost certainly entail a lot of forward pressure.

Rankin just looks more assured of late, like he knows what he's doing and what his role is and he's not just winging it hoping not to stuff up, but actually showing the confidence to make things happen and take risks. Good for him.

And I concur with others that Melican didn't really stand out to me much, but for a key defender that's probably a good thing if it means he's not doing much wrong. Third game back from injury now and I'd be more than OK with him coming into the back-line if McCartin doesn't get up.

All depends on Tommy Macā€™s fitness.

Without any inside knowledge whatsoever, I'm not expecting him at least until after the bye. The fact he returned to play and imo looked pretty far off anything like his best before then reporting symptoms again means that the club won't be rushing him. And given we have a bye after the Blues game, seems like an easy call to give him a unbroken long run of weeks out before considering him to return to the field.
