Ladies and gentlemen, we gather here today to bid a fond farewell and pay tribute to a true footballing legend, Jack Gunston. We come together not in sorrow, but in celebration of the incredible journey that has brought him to this moment. With the trade of Jack Gunston from the Brisbane Lions to the Hawthorn Football Club, we reflect on the impact he has had on the Brisbane Lions community.

Jack's journey in the AFL has been nothing short of remarkable. From his early days at the Adelaide Crows to his time at the Hawthorn Football Club, and most recently with the Brisbane Lions, he has consistently shown himself to be a force to be reckoned with on the field.

At the Brisbane Lions, Jack brought his immense skill, experience, and leadership to the team. He embraced the club, its fans, and the city, leaving a lasting impression on all those who had the privilege to watch him play. His ability to kick goals, make crucial plays, and bring his teammates together was nothing short of inspirational.

Jack's journey is not just about the numbers on the scoreboard or the medals in the trophy cabinet; it's about the moments that have left us in awe, the resilience he's shown in the face of adversity, and the indomitable spirit that has made him a beloved figure in the world of Australian rules football.

As we say goodbye to his time in Brisbane, let us remember that trade deals are just part of the game. What truly matters are the connections made, the memories shared, and the legacy left behind. Jack Gunston, thank you for your unwavering dedication to the sport and for the indelible mark you've left on the hearts of Brisbane Lions fans across the nation.

May your future at the Hawthorn Football Club be as bright as your past, and may your journey continue to inspire and captivate us all. Farewell, Jack Gunston, and may you kick many more goals in the chapters yet to be written in your storied AFL career.

**** this club, I'm burning my membership. External review into how this happened or I walk.

See you at Cathedral Lodge, Jack.

Trying to remember the last time we had a player traded in who only lasted one year before being traded out (rather than retiring). I think the rest of the one season wonders involved joining the new club in some kind of draft situation.
I was going to say Frost, but I completely forgot he was yet another of our defenders who retired due to concussions.

Digging through player records after the merger, Barker or Calthorpe.

You bastards - I had just put up a poster of Sticks in my room. Brisvegas have pulled off a massive steal.

Time will tell. Some promising glimpses but a very limited sample size.

For now I’ll sit calmly in the middle ground between the Hawks fans who think they’ve lost a flying-under-the-radar future star and the Lions fans who think we’ve picked up a complete VFL hack.

Drag your poster of Gunners out of the bin and put the Ryan poster on ebay.
I never lost my love for Gunners. Was a key reason as to why we were premiers in 2013.

Anyway, that's the way it's gonna be, little darling. Was lucky enough to be at the 'Gabba to witness his 6 goal haul - a day that will go down in football folklore.

Good to see the Lions upgrading its list whilst all the good teams around us upgrading their lists - Pies = Schulz, Dees = two picks in the top 11 and now ex-number 3 Billing’s for 3rd rounder, Carlton adding a top 10 pick and what do we do; pick up busted up Dodee who’ll lucky to get on the park and we give him 5 years and now a 26 year old mid season pick barely ona VFL list. Shrewd list management.

We’ll be lucky to make the 8; history says a GF the following year drops out of the 8 and it won’t be Pies.

You could look into the process of transferring your active club support from Hawthorn to Brisbane ... you can even make an entry on our 'How did you start supporting the Lions?' thread.

We also have a few dual-citizen type posters and since you apparently live in or love Queensland...

Note - have not examined the posting history and if he is the Danster of the Hawthorn board I am sure the mods can put up a quick entry requirement ;)

A fit Doedee is the best player you've mentioned there, considering last years trade and draft period and looking forward to next years as well it has been a decent off-season by us

I mean technically we picked up Calthorpe in the pre-season draft and Barker was a "pre-draft" selection but they probably are the closest fit.

Please spare a thought for McIvor, who is taking this much much worse than I am. Be strong.

And the Pies have lost Ginnivan, played in the GF and Taylor Adams, missed the GF due to injury

I need time to reflect. Time to heal. I will take the off-season to consider my options and regain that vigor in my heart.
There were posters who followed Aker to the Dogs after many years of service ... think carefully before you follow young Jack over to Waverly...

LOL! Have not listened to Trade Radio at all until today, they are talking up what a great get Tom Fullarton is for the Demons, can play on all 3 lines, key forward, ruck and key back... you would think he is the next Matthew Pavlich.

He can definitely be named on all three lines!

Even if he ends up being a VFL hack (which I doubt) we lost two key forwards and needed some more depth. There’s always a risk Hipwood or Daniher go down still.
