He won't leave Victoria.Anyone have an idea of our salary situation? I wouldn’t mind if we threw the kitchen sink at Bailey Smith
He won't leave Victoria.
Everyone will ask the question. We just don't need to be shocked when he doesn't come because he says no.May as well ask the question

Because we currently don’t have a ready to go replacement for him or WAshcroft next year.
And he’s still better than any potential replacements currently on our list.
Father Time might properly catch up to him next season, in which case Fage’s then makes the same call as he did with Rich this year.
You simply have to trade Hipwood. Barely improved in 10 years, flat tracker who has trade value to the desperados
No current season stats available
Looking at our list in a cold non emotional level what could we do to maybe improve our list?
I do not doubt Jarrod Berry's effort at all but his consistency is a worry, has too many down games for a player right in the prime of his career.
I would not be against trading him out if we could get good compensation in return, the only thing I would worry about is that he is an integral part of the culture we have built as a caring/family/loving club and him being traded out would really affect the mindset of the group.

Love Zorks but I think it is time for him to pull up stumps and leave the possible flag to others.

Gunston and Lyons to retire before they are OOC would be a good thing, if possible keep them on as VFL players in pseudo coaching roles.

Shadeau Brain worth a go off half back in some early 2024 games, really liked the look of him there in reserves... Wilmot to wing/mid??

Hipwood would've been fine if he'd just held on to some of the marks that he got into good position for. He tried hard and didn't exactly get silver service from the mids who were struggling to get clean possession. Why? Losing McStay means that we especially need him. Key position players don't just fall out of the draft when you finish top 4 and into the team.
Problem with Eric is he’s never really been a marking type, certainly not hands out in front/overhead type anyway. To his credit he has at least made more contests this year, which he needed to do along with Joey after losing Dan last year. We probably are a “contested mark type” player short but I’m not sure there’s any going unfortunately.Hipwood would've been fine if he'd just held on to some of the marks that he got into good position for. I’ve always maintained that we should’ve stumped up for what McStay wanted, within reason of course and if it was purely monetary. If it wasn’t then nothing we could do, but if it was monetary, then what a mistake which I said at the time and many times throughout the year. I’d have sacrificed any one of our flankers or mids if it meant keeping a KPF that is consistent at the AFL level. I mean there are zero options available to bring one in when we had a bloody good one at the time. It’s even more idiotic that we let him leave now.For all the criticism of Hipwood hes the second forward in the team. Look around the league at how many second forwards and how many goals+goal assists they provided. Hipwood was second behind Hawkins by just 3. Hipwood is statistically the second best second forward in the comp.
I did think in a weird way McStays contested marking was more valuable to keep than Hippy who is too similar a style to Joe. But I got all the reasons the trades happened. But yes it would be nice to have a great contested marker in the team, but they are incredibly rare
I’d take Shiel if we thought we could get his body run; he’s a jet when he’s up and going.Billings would be an interesting one if we again backed in the medical team to get a player fit. The guy has talent, he just doesn’t get out there enough. Seems like the sort of player we usually target and if he could get fit I think he could help fill a troubled wing spot for us. Not sure on price etc though obviously.
We got Gunston. I don't think Dan was as crucial to our game as many seem to think but maybe he would've been handy yesterday.I’ve always maintained that we should’ve stumped up for what McStay wanted, within reason of course and if it was purely monetary. Berry is off contract next year isn’t he? I wonder if we get the same output from him next year the club starts to consider moving on themselves, although as you say I guess club culture needs to be weighed up in that scenario.Looking at our list in a cold non emotional level what could we do to maybe improve our list?

We've got Fort ?We need to look at someone who can help Oscar in the ruck. I don’t think that answer is currently on our list.
I thought it was pretty evident the pies were trying to tire him early and Cox/Cameron were able to keep him without a mark.
I agree. We should be open to trading Berry. We should also look at moving Rayner on. He has just finished his sixth season, played 113 games and he is still to demonstrate any consistency as a player, as he continues to simply disappear during games. After more than six years in the system, we shouldn’t be ‘hoping’ Rayner has a big preseason which will magically improve his ability to run games out. If Rayner hasn’t built his running capacity to what is required at the elite level by now, he never will.Looking at our list in a cold non emotional level what could we do to maybe improve our list?

I nearly mentioned Cam as well in that post you quoted, I still (maybe naively) have hope Cam will breakout.I agree. We should be open to trading Berry. We should also look at moving Rayner on.
