Hello Shinboners!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Earlier the Hawthorn offer was reported as being as high as $850k per year, which would easily provide Band 1 compo, so it wouldn't be necessary to provide McKay with further financial incentives when he has already rejected a higher salary to nominate a club that in my opinion isn't going anywhere with its current list management strategy. I'm still bemused by his choice when he earlier said that he wanted to test his market value through free agency. We should be talking to his manager rather than to McKay. The player manager is responsible for negotiating the highest possible salary he can for his client.

I know you're not saying this, but any money we might pay to McKay or might provide to Hawthorn doesn't form part of the contract money the AFL bases its compensation decision on, otherwise a desired outcome is too easy to manipulate.
Only thing I’ll assume with McKay contract at Bombers is incentives. I don’t think he gives up what is essentially 70k per season for 5 seasons without bridging part of that gap. Ie 50k trigger of plays more then 16 games

99% sure you can change the offer after it’s been submitted.

If that is the case (I don't know) then it is in Essendon's best interest to lodge their offer as soon as possible. If they wait till the death and North matches the offer the following day, the deadline for Essendon to lodge an improved RFA contract offer will have expired.

Shiel cant football.. add him to my shitlist of campaigners that cant kick. Cant kick, s**t footballer
Don’t need to be a great kick to football - hello Dangerfield

Knows where to run to get the ball and to stop the opposition from breaking clear - he’s hodge like in reading the play

I do believe that it’s partly taken into account… very mysterious all up though

Danger has slotted many goals boundary line 50m out, he hits more targets than Shiel has in his wildest dreams. There is a reason they want to move Shiel on, he’s shit.

A player manager worth his salt should never allow to have his client's income split between salary and incentives if it isn't necessary. Firstly, a salary is guaranteed whereas incentives may not be payable for a whole host of reasons. Secondly, superannuation is payable on salary, but not on incentives. The AFL rightfully can't officially take non guaranteed incentive payments into consideration, but they should be asking Essendon some hard questions about sabotaging the RFA compensation process by taking this approach. Given that the formula is not transparent, perhaps the AFL can still unofficially factor those payments into its compo deliberations as I'm sure they wouldn't want to reward Essendon for taking what is essentially a dishonest approach.

It’s funny how things get legs. We haven’t received 3 (yet, but be hopeful) but on our board I can guarantee it doesn’t say Duursma to Essendon.

It’s easy to assume Dodoro will play silly buggers but better to assume the extra time is being taken to ensure they aren’t forced into a trade scenario because it will monopolise their whole window. They could have lodged Goldy too and that affects nobody.

Who cares wat Magoo does there; he can wash Scotts fricking windscreen every day once he’s gone

if thats the case and North have 72 hours to repond and that will have to be done by the end of day on the 13th October so that means it hase to be submitted by end of day on the 10th..
The deadline to lodge is 5pm Friday. The matching deadline is 5pm Monday. We will get 72 hours.

Why arent incentives or triggers combined in the contract offer? Should be

Exactly, if you are going to earn an extra hundred K a year for merely showing up to play or meeting some bullshit KPI then it should be included as part of the overall payment because there is no way the player isn’t going to meet them to earn 100k less…!

How pick 1 negotations could play out

The poker games are in full swing this time of the year and West Coast has followed the script to a tee.

The Eagles have the top pick in the draft and have made it nice and clear early they are happy to take Bendigo prodigy Harley Reid.

He’s the Dustin Martin clone who loves a screamer.

But this is where the bidding will begin.

North Melbourne (pick 2), Hawthorn (3) and Melbourne (5) are all in the queue to talk to the Eagles about what it would take to pinch the top pick off them.

So West Coast will publicly pump up Reid, while behind the scenes hope that North Melbourne, in particular, throws the kitchen sink at them as part of a swap.

You won’t hear them say it, but West Coast would be happy, too, if it lands gun Western Australian key defender Daniel Curtin.

He’s the centre half-back with some Marcus Bontempelli moves, good judges are saying.

For West Coast, the perfect scenario is if they get something extra juicy from North, such as pick 14, to swap their pick 1 for North’s pick 2.

That way, North Melbourne can use pick 1 to snare Reid, who will help put bums on seats at Marvel Stadium with his powerful goalkicking, and allow West Coast to take the hometown star Curtin at pick 2.

But the Roos are going to have to give up something good as an extra to get the deal done.

Curtin could help anchor the Eagles’ rebuild after the club took Reuben Ginbey and Elijah Hewett last year as part of a strategic shuffle down the order.

The split pick strategy worked out well for West Coast last year (swapping pick 2 for picks 8 and 12) and clubs are convinced they will follow the same route again in a bid to get another first-round pick from North in the deal.

Just don’t expect to hear it out of anyone’s mouth at West Coast in the meantime as the club talks up Reid and the value of the top pick until the real negotiations ramp up.

Yep once you go down that road you could say offer any RFA a “base” wage of $600k with $300k of (easily achieved) incentives just so the other team only gets band 2 or 3 compo and thus screw them over or even “blackmail” them into agreeing to part with a band 1 compo pick for crap picks.

It’s dishonest to say the least and as I said before draft tampering at worst.

I’m not a big fan of Kayne but watch his last few weeks in the seniors. He is far from our worst. Works really hard and the boys love him.
Would keep him ahead of Mahoney, Bonar and RHJ. He will not be on our list when we are challenging. If only we could put his intent and work rate into TT. Then you would have a superstar.
If it clicks with TT and he starts emulating Kayne, who has been at the club longer than him and has alot less talent then keeping him on will be worth it.

Surprised by that.

Thought it might have been Adcock, given he was the forward coach for about 6 years at Brisbane.

Have you seen them kick for goal? :stern look

This article doesn't even say we want Reid.

Not saying we do or don't myself but we're like an NPC in this discussion.

I believe so.

* make offer

Bam rejects offer

* submit new offer

Can anyone confirm this?

Can't change the offer and can only register one FA contract, after that it is matched or not. If it is matched the options for the player is accept to stay, be traded or go into the draft.

Turner has survived Scott, Shaw, Noble and Clarko. He must be doing something right.
What he does right is effort and professionalism. That’s why he’s still in our list, but for me I’ve had enough and want him delisted. The skill execution is very average and I’d like someone else to be given a go.

Anyone else get the feeling that the AFL's secret herbs and spices compo process is going to **** us? It makes the Reid trade (if 2+14 is what it'll take to get it done) a much more complicated proposition. Such campaignerss
