I say we don't initiate any trade for pick 1 and see if West Coast flinches.

Given that we officially have pick 2 & 3, there’s at least some pressure on West Coast to take Curtain with pick 1 if they want him.

The only way West Coast can ensure they draft Curtain is by either selecting him pick 1 or by trading with us, a trade scenario where we have a considerable advantage.

i dont know the resulting length of his contract but if its 1 year its a no brainier, 2 years makes it a little longer to carry him but you could also pay him out his contract early if spots were tight, assuming we dont go blowing our salary cap of course but cant see that happening in a hurry unless we completely stuff it.

He wouldn't up root his family just to cover to North for 12 months.

What's the point in having a stopgap KPF when we are not even developing one at the same time?

I reckon we are going after a fully formed one end of next year.

Maybe he'll do a Fly In Fly Out arrangement, very popular over in the West: 2 weeks on plays against Dogs & *, 1 week off misses the Dees Sunday noon on Mother's Day, back for the following Sunday at the Cattery.

Adding an experienced player
Much needed depth at KPF
Taking on salary to assist with trading for pick 1

Eagles don't have salary cap issues though and why would you need depth at KPF when you aren't contending for a GF?

They’ll bank on a JHF scenario with him wanting out after a season or two.

1) We need experienced players who we know will deliver what we need. Our list manager was at West Coast for years so knows what darling is capable of.

2) We have significant salary cap room to play with, so taking on a salary dump here is an excellent use of our resources.

3) We have an All Australian KPF but just lost our KPD. We've got a talent key position player in Comben we'll be sending back to cover that hole, so need a good stopgap KPF for a year or two.

Any further questions before you scuttle back off to your own board?

What's up bud? You don't like friendly discussions?

Because you want a structured team that can perform a game plan so that other players can develop.

And you think the under-performing for several seasons Jack Darling is the answer for you? Man even though I know there is no truth to it North can have him if they want.

Next order of business is turning our 2 future end of 1st's into something we can use this year.

This thread is way overdue for a title change:
2023 Trade & List Management II - Pick 3 is the magic number
2023 Trade & List Management II - Pick 3 is the charm
2023 Trade & List Management II - Three for free

Knowing that mods are Beastie Boy fans, I reckon we'll get:

'2023 Trade and List Management Thread II - Three the Hard Way!'

Anyone saying they don’t see any value in trading Darling in as “he is finished or only has one year left” is a dinosaur with their footballing opinions re list management. Things have changed, clubs salary dump to facilitate trades and get what they actually want, ie pick 1 in this case. This isn’t 1995, Darling is 5% of what we want out of the trade, but he actually comes with experience, has won a flag, is an AA and could possibly help us out like pup did this year, and if it doesn’t work out, well no big loss as he wasn’t the main component of the trade. People forget, our list is bloody average but we need to pay at least 95% of the salary cap, Darling also helps us do that.
