Blanck to take the big boys still got Siss and Weddle when needed can play on taller athletic types …….. Mitch gave him some valuable experience during the year eg) playing on Charlie Cunrow for a good reason perhaps. His versatility will be enormous for the coaches. And we can hopefully develop McCabe and Serong 🤞
Blanck’s going to be great but has played 20-odd games. Sis is NOT a key/lockdown defender. Weddle’s not big enough. Frost is cooked. We’re in strife down back if we don’t find something.

Oh not for a second but this is what amuses me here ... it's been said repeatedly that we're not interested in downgrading four. Mark has said it, Rob has said as much. People here have said it, yet there's some still going on about the Dees & the Dogs and trade scenarios that would be better.

This draft has widely been labelled the 'super six' draft. Reid, Watson, McKercher, Walter, Curtin & Duursma are seen as clear standouts. That's not to say others like Read, Caddy, Sanders, O'Sullivan etc wont be stars but those first six are seen as pretty-much guaranteed A-graders.
We know this, every club knows this. That's why we wont downgrade our pick and that's why clubs behind us (and North & WC) continually ask the question. For the same reason we'll keep talking to WC & North until draft day ... just in case.

And although you can never say anything with 100% certainty in the draft, we're 99% certain WC wont downgrade to us and 99% North wont either for the same reason we're 99% certain we wont downgrade to Dogs, Dees or others.

If the Dees want to get into the “super six” and WC are willing to not take Curtain then a 3 way pick swap works with:

Dees get pick 4(5): Watson / Duursma / McKercher / Curtain
WC get picks 6(7) and 11(13) and the Hawks F1
Hawks get pick 1 (Harley)

The cost for the Hawks is pick 4(5) and a F1 for Harley Reid. I’d do that.
WC get three early to mid 1st round picks for pick 1. They need to rebuild much of their team and this spreads the risk.
The Dees get a best 22 player that can help them win a premiership next year.

Norf can still offer WC a better deal (picks 2 and 3 or picks 2,15 and a F1) but will they?

The Hawks leave the draft with Harley Reid, Will McCabe, maybe Jacob Blight (21yrs, 195cm KPB) and / or Calsher Dear.

In 2024 the Hawks go after free agents or, if allowed, use cap space to buy picks.

Our forward line only a couple of weeks ago looked average. Overnight it’s starting to take shape structure wise with options and throw in the Wiz or Dursma …….. with the delivery from a quality young midfield group that bats deep I reckon we will surprise next season ☝️
Yeah. We've got no defenders too (except Sicily & Dimma).

The chatter about 2005 has triggered me to go back for a memory refresh

This is where the action was!
View attachment 1838744

Pick 14 became Birch and 18 became Max Bailey

Which followed a PP (3) for X and 6 for Dowler.
And rounded out by 22 for Muston.
ETA: And the late Trav Tuck as F/S

If we didn't have so many premierships "papering over the cracks" our performance in this draft would be a lot more talked about I reckon! Richie Tambling wishes he was a year younger!

ETA: Being a bit harsh. Draft drops away after Max. But Pendles instead of X and Ryder instead of Dowler would've been ace!
Trav is still with us, it was his brother Shane that sadly took his own life.

That would rely on the cats wanting to do that trade.

I could see us offering up our F1 for a player we rate in the top 5-6.

Need a team to want to do that trade though. Most teams want to trade a little later in the draft once the players they want are gone.
The cats announced on trade radio they were open to trading it.

West Coast won't trade 1 unless they get a top 4 pick and more. Pick 6(7) might be a bit low for their liking. Curtin will be gone by then as well. Worth a try, but I think let's not worry much about Harley at this point. We have enough midfielders to work with. Either a key back or a game-changing forward. Personally I believe, Duursma or Curtin would be ideal. Next best would be Watson. Should be one of those three. I don't think McKercher is getting past Pick 3 but there is the slightest possibility NM could take Curtin if they want to replenish KPDs since McKay is gone.

This would make the most sense, and dees will pick a goal kicking forward over curtin

If the Doggies really have their heart set on Watson then it may be interesting if he is still on the board at our pick. They may offer us something silly on the niight to move from 5 to 4.
Very good authority that we had discussions with the dogs about this during trade week but they completely shut it down.

Hearing they’re happy with Sanders if Watson is gone

It would be very funny if after trading all those assets to move up the Dogs selected another inside mid with no secondary position.

Although the trade period for picks is open, nothing big is going to happen for the next two weeks. Key dates:

Nov 1 to Nov 8, DFA period. Maybe a little minor action here.
Nov 10, one day DFA trading and pick trading closes. If we get any action, it will be on this day.

Nov 20, first round of the draft. No pick trading this day. So if the first round moves around, it moves on Nov 10.
Nov 21, the rest of the draft, a day of pick trading and more DFA options after the draft. The usual action here.

So, I’ll see you all on Nov 10 unless something very unlikely happens sooner.

That doesn’t sound right. Are you saying you can’t live trade picks on the 1st day of the draft I.e 1st round?

That’s how this reads to me. But then my English comprehension skills may be off (a shame since it’s the only language I know). Or the info could be wrong. What do you think?

I am pretty sure pick trading can't happen during the day of the draft, but once the draft commences (say 7pm), then pick trading can occur from that point onwards.

You are living on another planet if you think WC do that deal.

Geez McKercher looks amazing. Hypothetically, if he was still there at our pick which I get is very unlikely, but what could we do to our mids to accommodate him?

He'd probably start across the HF or HB line for a year or two as Ward, Mackenzie, and McDonald slide inside a little more.

Might even allow us to trade Worpel in a year or two for a decent pick.

If it's Watson vs McKercher you'd still have to take McKercher and then draft another small fwd later in the draft. There'd have to be a mature aged, speedy, high pressure fwd out there somewhere. Aren't too many McKerchers floating around.

I hope it doesn't go that way but if it does, you're right.

Our midfield would be Newcombe, McKercher, Day, with Ward & Maginness on the wings. Nash & MacDonald off the bench. Frenchie off half back. Stephens the sub. Worpel at the Cattery.

I really think we should try MacKenzie off half back...

Could be another Daicos or Sheezel really. He'll need a couple of years before he can really insert into the midfield, but I think it would be a great experience for him, just as it was for W. Day.
