I really think we should try MacKenzie off half back...

Could be another Daicos or Sheezel really. He'll need a couple of years before he can really insert into the midfield, but I think it would be a great experience for him, just as it was for W. Day.
I think Mackenzie would go alright there …. But I do have to ask how many half back flankers do we have to have ???

I hope it doesn't go that way but if it does, you're right.

Our midfield would be Newcombe, McKercher, Day, with Ward & Maginness on the wings. Nash & MacDonald off the bench. Frenchie off half back. Stephens the sub. Worpel at the Cattery.

Stephens hasn't been close to being selected, not sure bringing in another gun midfielder will help increase his chances.

Mitchell, Jiath, Impey, and MacKenzie? Scrimshaw & Weddle are more medium-tall defenders but those should be all of them. It's going to be hard to fit all these guys in the same team of course. But I guess that will have to be depth in our favour. Whoever performs best will keep their spot. If not, next man up!

And do any of them defend, or do the all just move the ball well?
I'm not sure. Hardwick looks like our only good small defender if we're looking at defense alone. They will have to improve in that area if they wanna hold onto a spot. Or else Weddle will just eat up their position. Because he can defend AND run.

If the Dees want to get into the “super six” and WC are willing to not take Curtain then a 3 way pick swap works with:

Dees get pick 4(5): Watson / Duursma / McKercher / Curtain
WC get picks 6(7) and 11(13) and the Hawks F1
Hawks get pick 1 (Harley)

The cost for the Hawks is pick 4(5) and a F1 for Harley Reid. I’d do that.
WC get three early to mid 1st round picks for pick 1. They need to rebuild much of their team and this spreads the risk.
The Dees get a best 22 player that can help them win a premiership next year.

Norf can still offer WC a better deal (picks 2 and 3 or picks 2,15 and a F1) but will they?

The Hawks leave the draft with Harley Reid, Will McCabe, maybe Jacob Blight (21yrs, 195cm KPB) and / or Calsher Dear.

In 2024 the Hawks go after free agents or, if allowed, use cap space to buy picks.
Was talking to a young fella today
he is I suppose you could say an ITK in that he’s on the list of an AFL club who’ll play a big part in this years draft . Basically the draft will stay as is with #1 being the best player in it unless 2&3 is on offer .Also not a big wrap for Caddy .

Very good authority that we had discussions with the dogs about this during trade week but they completely shut it down.

Hearing they’re happy with Sanders if Watson is gone
So that would mean one of the top 5 slips through if Watson is gone. expecting Reid McKercher Duursma go 1-2-3 if eagles hold pick 1 (will be known as would only live trade) then if dees come for pick 4 to take Watson and offer 6,11 it has to be tempting assuming Curtin is high on our draft board. I assume he is 3rd after Duursma and Watson but unclear of the gap and whether adding pick 11 bridges it. Fascinating stuff.

If it's Watson vs McKercher you'd still have to take McKercher and then draft another small fwd later in the draft. There'd have to be a mature aged, speedy, high pressure fwd out there somewhere. Aren't too many McKerchers floating around.

Even if we don't take Watson, I don't think we would take another small forward later in the draft. We have Bennetts, Butts and Sully and possibly even Mass waiting behind Breust and Ginny.

Then get a free agent. Has there been a key back draftee who became a mature KPP in two seasons?0
Except the fact that there are like no key backs in FA next year?

Dougal Howard & Dean from Collingwood might be worth a look but really nothing else is out there which is concerning

Neither am I. It has nothing to do with his personality either. He could potentially slide a bit IMO.

Agreed his kicking is poor. Hard pass for me. Osullivan if we trade back or get another top 10 pick.
I like the look of O'Sullivan. Tall, big body, 92kegs. Marking and intercept type defender. Could well be developed as a stoppage/ gorilla. Might might well be a diamond in the rough.

Left field, but I reckon Nash could be a good CHB. Remember seeing his first pre season game playing as a defender and he looked good.

Roughy2CHB is back.

We only trade our F1 for a late top 10 pick if we think we could grab O'Sullivan there. The chances aren't great but if it does happen it would be a massive steal. I'm not sure trading F1 for any other player is a good idea, just based on positional needs.
