Both WA teams are hovering. It would cost both Clubs their first and neither are prepared to give their corresponding pick up. How the HFC would react is interesting. I do know he is unhappy how Sydney have treated him. Preference for Buddy has “caused an issue between the Swans front office and their footy dept”. Very interesting.
Fremantle don’t have their first Rd pick

Good point. They are not in the game anyway.
But they do have a future first ??
Would you want to speculate on it though?

They're not good, but you'd assume they have to perform better in 2024 & with their home game/umpire advantage, they're underperformed if they're not Top 6.

If we got him cheap I wouldn’t be against it.

Can mark and can kick straight which is something our second key forward (Kossy) struggles with.
Ben brown is cooked no more list cloggers please. That includes Riccardi for anything more than a late third or fourth. More
Protein shakes into ramsden please.

We can still do the protein shakes and recruit a Ricardi. Although the more I hear it is unlikely we recruit him unless we some how wrangle him into a salary dump with GWS.

Agree 100%. Need to move on from the Clarkson/Wright later approach of bringing in players to fill in major list deficiencies. I do think Sam/Mark are using the earlier C/W approach of building the list first then targeting players to supplement (think Gibson/Hale/Burgoyne/Lake/McEvoy).

Sam says we’ll hit the draft this year with a little bit of free agency.

SA press say Doedee is likely to have committed elsewhere as it doesn’t look like he will re-sign with the Crows.

Did we lock Doedee away early in the year like Amon?

I noticed that 'little bit of free agency' thrown in there as well. Earlier around mid season draft time Mitchell also mentioned that we were in need for a tall 'general' defender as well. We're pretty good at pretending to be completely transparent, while never actually revealing our absolute true intentions. Last year everyone in the industry knew we had Amon but Sam played a completely straight bat whenever asked about him last year. No idea about Doedee, but it would certainly strengthen the backbone of the list to have another key position type defender, and I think free agency best value is where sides can use it to fill holes in the spine. With Frost there and DGB developing, it would be interesting if we made that move, as it would be saying to those players we need to upgrade what we already have, not that I disagree.

He doesn’t fill much of a need and has done his ACL. He’s a capable player but we’d be adding a player for the sake of adding a player. Unless we also traded a defender out (Scrimshaw, DGB, CJ perhaps) and took the free agent while moving a player, I don’t see the fit.

Interesting. The club appears to be taking a medium term view of its list build, so his ACL injury may not preclude this. Unfortunately the AFL media and many supporters take a very short term view and don’t focus on much beyond the next game.
Mitchell, on the other hand, appears to have a vision of the future.

I don't think the risk to us is as high, if he comes via FA. Less capital spent acquiring him etc.
Risk is very high IMO - this is his second ACL now. He is a high leaping intercept defender who relies on his athleticism. Two ACL’s will compromise that athleticism and then what? I really hope we haven’t committed yo him

Responding to my own post... because I can...

I see the greatest risk in acquiring Doedee being opportunity cost. I don't see him filling a positional need, but bringing him in likely (?) means we can't chase a player of positional need AND chase a good pick via a Salary Dump / Pick Purchase.

I'd rather spend money buying a GWS Pick this off-season & splurging on Max King next off-season than signing Doedee now & missing one of those options.

Good point.
I don't think we should be targeting him at all as I don't think he is what we need.

Ben King first. Then Max King. Then the saints implode. Then the saints and suns merge. Back to 18 teams. BOOM!

Whichever is the Gold Coast King - that's the one I want. The Saints one is a d1ck.

Hope so. I am not getting anything about him these days, one way or the other. I have not heard anything from the Club re DGB either. Let alone Frost, come to think of it.
