The one thing we don’t have to worry about is north getting a premiership winning list.

What sucks is us and other teams down the ladder get punished for norths incompetence.
Well, not in the hands of North it might not be, but I mean the amount of talent they would end up with should be a premiership-capable list!

Man I hope so. DGB + Brock + 3 if necessary. Otherwise 1 of those players and 3.

The more I think about it if those players wanted to head home it would be seperate for a deal involving 1 . Denver has no currency and brockman is uncontracted , our only hope is if brockman is happy to sign on if a deal that doesn't suit us can't get done.

We would have to give up 3 + future 1st, it would Trump any deal wc will get unless north offer 2+3 but surely that would raise eyebrows if they're sooking they need help.

I think both those players walk into West Coasts starting 22. Pretty sure the Eagles have always been keen on DGB as well. Brocky has currency after what he’s been able to produce this season.
But yeh, anything more than 3 plus those 2 players and I’m out. They will likely get offered 2 x 1sts for Reid from another club.

I’d be happy to use our 2024 pick 1 to target a proper KPF this trade period.

DGB might not earn a top 5 pick but he’s still got currency.

All clubs watch players from years out, then they monitor them at other clubs and plan to get them across to their own should an opportunity arise. We’ve done it multiple times with players who have stagnated or gone backwards at other clubs.

West Coast wouldn’t be thinking the talent that Denver showed in his draft year is gone, they’d be thinking that it’s yet to be developed or harnessed.

If Fisher wants more midfield time, why would he come to us?

We're already struggling to get Ward, CMac1, CMac2 and Maginness in there. Then there's a few waiting at Box Hill too.

Would be good to get Moore in there more often.

I just don't see how Fisher could fit in?

He plays a completely different way to our current midfielders. Could add variety with some of our set ups.

He could, but it'd mean the 4 I mentioned get even less time than they currently do. I don't think that's worth the variety he brings.

Not sure I share your optimism here.

We snagged Scrimshaw for a future 4th who was a similar age, slightly younger, also not quite in the seniors, and a similar pick (7). Only difference was Scrim is desperate to come home though, whereas DGB seems happy to stay.

Thinking of similar precedents, we picked up Jon O'Rourke for essentially pick 19, however, you might argue he'd shown a bit more in terms of development.

DGB is contracted, and also isn’t a midfielder or flanker with the expectation of hitting the ground running.

I see false equivalencies in the comparisons.

I believe Scrim was contracted too.

Give us a better comparison then.

I really don't think the position matters that much. They were very high draft picks whose value dropped a year or 2 after being drafted and probably were less of an unknown.

Saw this post over on the draft board and thought it would be better responded to here(as the draft board is a mess of trolling a lot of the time).

Using stats that were uncovered this week on SEN, I really question the “2 years away from making real strides” statement.

Since round 2 we are:
3rd in the comp for ball movement
6th in contested ball
1st for contested ball once it hits deck

We’re also 3rd on the comp for centre clearances, and having lost 3 games by less than a kick with the youngest midfield in the comp we could easily be sitting 12th right now.

We’ve made massive strides in the biggest area of concern(midfield) in just 6 months.

We didn’t have a key forward at all for 8 weeks, let’s also remember.

With continued development and a functioning forward line we can absolutely push for finals next year.

Ryan would definitely help that cause.
I would probably agree with the poster you've quoted.

Mitch himself said we've been watching Adelaide carefully, a potent attacking team who are a year or two ahead in their rebuild. They are still learning to balance their attack and defence, and getting games into young players. You would say their rebuild has been a success, but they are not even playing finals this year.

I'm hoping for success sooner, but I won't bat an eyelid if we're in the lower half of the ladder for the next two years.

Adelaide have had the wins they did on the back of Walker and Laird most weeks, with Dawson also have a great year. They have very little coming through in the middle, apart from Rachele and some sub-30 picks, which is why half of them were wetting themselves at the thought of Will Day heading home.

We're well ahead of them in the midfield rebuild, but behind them in the forward line, but that can change very quickly with the supply our midfield will continue to build and 1 or 2 additions next to Lewis.

Liam Ryan + Watson/Caddy/Duursma (maybe even Harley if we go balls to the wall) completely reshape our forward line and propel our rebuild forward.

Some interesting points but I just disagree that we're ahead in any facet. We may have amassed some talent in the middle, but we are bottom 4 in the league for clearances. They are top 4.

You could argue they rely too heavily on Walker, Laird and Dawson, but the counterargument that we rely on Sicily is even stronger. All teams rely on their good players.

Are we?
I thought we were right near the Top.

Don't look at total clearances.

Look at clearance differentials.

This has happened during our glory years and you can't control external factors. You do what is necessary create opportunities and when opportunity arises

We had the best team in the league so draft picks meant little.

Now we are a bottom four side in the midst of a long overdue rebuild, after spending years in the bottom half of the ladder not being close to sniffing finals. So those picks mean so much more right now. Every bit counts IMO.
