Just get the deal done. I love that for once, we're getting aggressive.

I agree. I'm sick of missing out because we are a year short or 50k per year off everyone else. The times have changed and this is the new afl . Who knows what his contract will actually be , there are so many triggers and performance based incentives these days. It looks like we have our big key back sorted for the next 7 years without losing any draft capital , the $$ amount will barely be felt for future targets or resignings with how much we currently have available. It's potentially a massive win for the club especially one that finished 16th to convince this years premier free agent to come across.

I'm not getting excited just because McKay's manager has come out and said
"It's down to two - Ben's deciding between the Hawks and the Scum" (verbatim)
At least he used the correct vernacular for essendon.

I for one feel sick thinking of what we are giving up to get an average footballer. Come on Dodo, you can do it

We are giving up cash. We are not giving up picks that will set us back . We are giving up cash which we have bucket loads.

We shelled out 750k this season for two players to play at other clubs. Think about that one!!!

If he called them the scum then it sounds good for us.

Front loaded deal with 1m each of the first two years the remaining 5 years at less than 600k per year when we need to resign our young guns.

It won't have any impact on our ability to keep anyone.

Hypothetically let's say it's $750k x 6 years. A total of $4.5M

"But that's a lot of money for an average player!"

Consider it this way... We're paying $1.5M of cap space (of which we have HEAPS free) to create a compensation pick out of thin air to trade for a player who will be on $500k x 6 years.

Shift the numbers around however you like, we're effectively swapping a resource we have lots of for something we need. It makes sense in that context.

This is huge - one big piece of the KPD puzzle added at no cost of any picks. Just need to add one more big forward and a small forward ( Wiz or Duursma)to play alongside Lewis and we are well on our way

This deal has Mitchell’s fingerprints all over if a la moving on TOM and JON. As ruthless as a coach as he was a player - love it!

I agree, every year its the same thing. If you line them all up we have done better than not on a lot of the deals that have happened in the last 15-20 years

yet the emotion associated with it all makes fans think we get it in proverbial every year

I think part of it is that we got stung with some good players like Brad Hill leaving and getting virtually nix back and then overpaying for JOM and Chad. We lost Ryan Burton and the draft pick that was used for Xavier Duursma in that trade. I suspect that it's the loss in some big trades that got people roiled. Even the Weddle deal where we lost OUR 2nd and 3rd rounders was costly. He's looking good but those picks would have been very handy this year.

Giving North more high end picks is like sending in more trains when the last 5 have derailed. Fix the track first! Put money and help into their off field resources. Help them develop the talent they already have.
NO! We must build more trains!!

(Said every government, corporate and stupid person ever)

Really!??! Sam wanted Weddle and MM made it happen.

Coming around to it even though i am still not convinced by it.

It would be nice to have a big bodied defender and i am excited by just how good Sicily would be now with him being able to settle in to the role he does better than anyone else in the AFL.
