It sounds like we're still using the scale that decided what we'd give up for O'Meara and Wingard.

I didn’t even think about that if this goes through there will be a decade of revisiting the trade too.

Frankly, based on what I am told, this is not even close to where we are prepared to go and it will shock many how far we are prepared to go for one player.

I don’t care how good Reid is, if we can have two A/A-‘s running around as opposed to one A+ surely that does more for a team? Put this effort into getting another top pick somehow and watch Watson and Duursma run around one-two’ing past Reid for the next 10-15.

Blah blah Hodge blah blah, past performance isn’t an indicator of future performance or something along this lines.

The price is too high, if what is being said is true I hope to hell someone trumps us by spending everything in existence themselves.

Is better from a list management and talent perspective than Harley Reid on his own.

That's if Smith was a possibility without pick 3 being involved.

You can pick up players like them in trades and shrewd drafting.
A player like Harley Reid does not come around very often, and when he does, we're unlikely to have the draft picks or player capital to get him.

If MM and SM think he is the one, then this is our time and we should not hesitate to Pay the Price™.

Since another club currently holds the pick that can take him, and 17 other clubs would want him, I'd say yours is the most likely scenario.
However, if you offered me odds of $5.00 or better, I'd take the bet that Reid will come to the hawks.

We traded Croad and McPharlin in 2001 in exchange for pick 1, 20 and 36.

Comparatively, when grouped our 2023 and 2024 1st pick, DGB and Brockman seem way way more to give up than what we did back then with McPharlin and Brockman sharing a similar story.

I'd have to say we are rating him as a Buddy / GAJ type level. Not just elite like say Bontempelli or Green but the best player in his generation type level.

Seems a massive gamble to me?

I reckon the club have recently been sounded outed by Nike to secure a long term deal to get their foot into the door/AFL. So do what you need to do to make it happen Hawthorn. Part of the contract is that Reid, Newk and Day have to start in the middle together at the centre bounce at least 10 times a game over the next 10 years and you have to make Bjorn Borg as the Hawks nu 1 ticket holder!

I'm tapping out after Pick 3 and F1. (Brockman is already gone and would be part of the trade in name only).
Anything beyond that is too big a risk in my opinion.

In terms of Reid’s likelihood of being a superstar… barring serious injury, I have zero doubt he will be that and more.
