Certainly wouldn’t hurt to look at Mannagh. He had a great VFL grand final which capped off a very strong year averaging 25 disposals and 1.9 goals a game.

Sure it’s only at VFL level but all our guys who’ve played VFL level this year haven’t performed as well as him. For next year he’s an upgrade on a fair number of those players.

He’s 180 cm and doesn’t seem slow either.

Think Blanck is pretty underrated. Has a lot of physical tools. Doesn't get much of the ball but is a dour stopper and for now that is something that we need.

Don't think he was embarrassed in any game post-bye once he was up and running healthwise.

Beat Naughton (0 goals), beat Cox in D50 (0 goals but he did play high up the ground and at times on Sicily), Daniher (0 goals)

Conceded 2 goals to King, 2 goals to McKay, 2 goals to McStay.

Did get smashed by Hogan (4 goals), beaten by JVR (3 goals), King (4 goals), Marshall (5 goals).

All in all he's come out ahead against 3 players (2 quality KPFs), probably considered a nil all draw against 3 good KPFs, and was well beaten on 4 occasions. Two of those occasions we got smashed to the tune of 10 goals and our midfield didn't show up.

I'm hoping there is a lot of improvement coming from within and our forward line putting pressure on opposition exiting D50 and our midfield defending better on transition is going to be extremely important going forward.
Blanca will hit 40 games next year and will have another preseason under his belt, I like his chances of making the grade. Just needs a big friendly giant to play next too.

Mabior Chol and Elijah Hollands, please come play at Waverley in 2024! Hollands is such a classy player, especially forward of centre. If he and Connor MacDonald could form a forward/midfielder duo, they would be very lethal. I think it should be abundantly clear why we need Chol now. His vertical leap and athletic capabilities, combined with his height, make him a very tough matchup for defenders. It seems he has also improved his positioning. It's no surprise why Gold Coast faltered compared to 2022, despite getting Ben King back. Let's go get these two talented players.

Honestly you could set up a template the last 4 weeks of VFL finals.

We should recruit (insert name of VFL player not getting a gig despite the MSD existing/reserves level player of dud side who can’t get a run in the seniors) they just (insert good feat in VFL game). They must be good enough!
We should recruit (Elijah Hollands) as he just (racked up 30 quality possessions and 10 tackles in the VFL grand final). He must be good enough! 👍

Cheers for the format! 😂

Makes sense - I mean Mitch White was BOG last year in the grand final for Casey and had 29 touches and 13 tackles and we all know how amazing he did in the AFL this year.

He:
1. has already been coached by Brad Scott

Was Mitch White a former top first round selection that did his knee too in his draft year?

Was just to point out that VFL stats are fun to get excited about but I am glad our recruiters base decisions on more than that. Case in point - Dimma wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire at VFL and had people on here demanding his selection. Once he got picked he just looked made for senior footy and has never looked back. On the flip side Jonathon Simpkin wild routinely rack up massive disposal tallies in the VFL but was a serviceable player in the seniors only.

31 touches and 10 tackles in the VFL is all well and good - but when he averages 14 touches and 2 tackles at senior level I’m not going to get all excited about recruiting him.

I like your preparation. You had that fact ready and waiting for a response. I dips me lid to you sir. 🎩

Seriously though, Elijah Hollands should be playing more AFL. He has soft hands meaning he rarely fumbles, has great vision with his handballs and can kick on either foot. He was the standout mid in his draft year (2020) before he did his knee.

Clearly his position (inside / outside mid) is not a priory for the Hawks and he is contracted to the end of 2024 meaning the cost to get him would likely be high. But if he somehow found his way (some sort of salary + player dump) onto the Hawks list I’d be most pleased.

Hollands was the starting sub in 3 of his 9 AFL games this year and had little time in his best position: the middle. As you pointed out, VFL stats can be misleading, but so can AFL stats.

No prep - just saw if anyone had similar stats last year. It’s a bit like my constant wondering why Tyler Keitel who keeps kicking swags of goals in the WAFL can’t get a run at the AFL level. End of the day there must be a reason. There must be a decent reason why Hollands can’t get a run in a side like the Suns. At this point I’d rather focus on the draft than going through the bins at other clubs. We’re still in a rebuild not topping up for a flag. There are plenty of players who can look like world beaters in the VFL who don’t have the tools to take it to the next level. Also I think a few people had mentioned here that Hollands’ attitude may be a problem - so not the kind of player I’d be rushing to sign. Same with Chol if he’s on the lazier side.
