No prep - just saw if anyone had similar stats last year. It’s a bit like my constant wondering why Tyler Keitel who keeps kicking swags of goals in the WAFL can’t get a run at the AFL level. End of the day there must be a reason. There must be a decent reason why Hollands can’t get a run in a side like the Suns. At this point I’d rather focus on the draft than going through the bins at other clubs. We’re still in a rebuild not topping up for a flag. There are plenty of players who can look like world beaters in the VFL who don’t have the tools to take it to the next level. Also I think a few people had mentioned here that Hollands’ attitude may be a problem - so not the kind of player I’d be rushing to sign. Same with Chol if he’s on the lazier side.

I’d also be happy enough if the Hawks played a straight bat this year and just hit the draft… though Chol does intrigue.

Note: the reasons why E.Hollands is not getting a run at the Suns are named: N.Anderson, T.Miller, M.Rowell, and S.Flanders… Note: in round 22, E.Hollands was on the interchange with all of those players on field. Sometimes a club can have too much talent in a particular position to fit into the the 22. One J.Kennedy in 2009 comes to mind.

Yep, Sam can be a fan as much as he wants. No chance is he leaving Freo. Even if Ryan wanted to leave. I will give 2 words why he won’t , Peter Bell.

They've put 9 years of development into him so it's only right they get 9 first rounders as compensation.

Is another intercepting, undersized key defender what we need?
I see him more as a Luke Hodge type than a KPD.
Would be an upgrade on multiple players we play in defence.
I wonder if his best years are ahead of him given his physical shape and limited athleticism.

Definitely a top player.
Very smart and I'd love him at Hawthorn.
But at 27 and contracted, I'm not sure I want to see us spend the draft capital it would take to complete the trade.

This team will take another couple of seasons to expect finals.
Maybe another 2 seasons to become contenders.
By that time Ryan will be well past his best years.
The alternative is to use the picks and have 1-2 players entering their prime years as the team is entering premiership contention.

Luke Ryan is probably in the "too hard" basket.
We'd have to give up a lot to get him and it's too early for us to do that.

General draft thought (no player in mind): surely clubs are now looking at a player’s susceptibility to getting concussed as a red flag. One would think that no matter how talented the player, if they have been concussed in the past, especially if the incident was innocuous, that few clubs would take a chance in the early part of the draft.

To varying degrees the Demons (Brayshaw), Hawks (Lynch), and Saints / Swans (McCartin) have all had their player list structure disrupted by having concussed players unavailable. It is a sad truth that some people, no matter their talent or how much they want it, don’t have the bone-headedness to play the contact sport that is AFL.

Got to admit I don’t really see the appeal in going for Luke Ryan.

His stats always look great but his effect on games is minimal, plays like Ziebell but to a slightly higher level.

Plus we are stacked with rebounding defenders.

We sent Finn to him.

Sam 100% rates him very highly. Sam and the staff rated his influence on Freo greater than Serong or Bradshaw.

Hey what’s with the Pepsi bashing they gave me a job during covid! Also even though I shave with clippers only these days I’d rather shave with a schick despite the scratches (or even a butter knife tbh) than give any money to Gillette after their disgraceful virtue signalling man bashing campaign.
Agree. It was a pretty poor ad.

Sam definitely seems to rate him highly, its also why he would chase him.

I’m just saying I personally don’t understand it.

I also don’t think freo fans rate him that highly either.

Nah, give up the ghost of chasing palywrs that don't move the needle too far. Unfortunately we went hard for higher rated players but didn't come through. We need high end KP players, not flankers and mid size players which we already have. Concentrate on draft this year. Not sure what will be available next year but worry about that then. We still have a lot of younger players we need to see more of. Serong , blanck , Butler, Denver, ramma , hust, Stephens etc.... filling spots with 'ok' players from other clubs all the while wasting second or third round picks? Foggettaboutit ! D. Brasco.

Thoughts on D’Ambrosio?

Hey RnL,

Can you remind me - was he out number 1 target in the msd that we took ramma? I also remember (I think it was you anyway) that we were linked to brynn teakle who has now been delisted?

I think we should delist Jaka and bring in a player like Jacob Blight.

Jeka is a great talent that seems to put in not enough effort. So say to him that he will play for Box Hill for a year and if he gets better in his intensity then he will be redrafted. But if Blight owns that position… Jeka will lose his last chance to be an AFL player.

Currently Jaka remains a player that we all hope will be better. If he is delisted, maybe he will be better.

As I remember the MSD that year Max Ramsden was likely gone before our pick. As happenstance occurred Rama was available and we took him as quickly as an Influencer needing a like. As fast as a cat needing to get off a hot tin roof.
Rama was the dream that was unlikely… and the dream came true.
Neuc was the MSD greatest ever win. Rama could be in the top 5… currently Ned Moyle gets position 2.

Sammy doesn't have a very good track record at attracting players to Hawthorn.

Hope he can turn it around.

Been coach a grand total of two seasons. How many huge trade targets did Clarko bring over in his first 2-3 off seasons.
