It’s pretty obvious we are not bringing in anyone of note which is disappointing. We’ve got a s**t load of cap space and we are on the up. Given we’ve said this stage of the rebuild was about bringing in recruits and when you fail too, it’s pretty s**t.
Plus a talent leaving in Mcadam

Now that it seems pretty clear we’re not trading in a walk up best 22 player, with the cap space we have do we reckon the club will just up Doedee’s offer to get him to stay because they don’t want to deal with the optics of both he and McAdam leaving?

And some of these names we’re being linked too… it’s really starting to sound like we’re in for a rather shite and uninspiring trade period which honestly makes me nervous for next year. And then a shallow and compromised draft to top it all off… just bleh

I doubt it.
if this period pans out as expected it’s going to be interesting to watch the next 12 months.

like you said our strategy clearly based around “topping up” this year and had the cap to support that. Only losing 2 players we were happy to keep means we’ve got that plus the $ not allocated to redman/day/other target(s).

we will be very active next year, but as we were this year it’s a matter of if we can actually land someone as I can forgive missing this year, missing again next year would start to have real impact on our ability to content when we should be

Club wants experienced players, hence Rory signed, lets experienced players go, not even a sniff of bringing in someone (happy to concede if we bring anyone in that’s decent)
? What’s going on here!

I don't think that happened at all. Zero chance.

Adelaide gave up what they did to get the deal across the line - but it would have been convincing Rankine's manager and maintaining relationships with them that would have been the priority. Adelaide needed to show that they were committed to getting a deal across the line before Rankine's reps would have agreed to publicly choose us.

People constantly underestimate how much impact managers have on what deals happen and don't happen.

like that Kristof guy did before the trade was done. He didn't realise either.

How could you have watched this year and be nervous about next year? There's major improvement in our list, just around maturation and greater composure.

I absolutely wanted us to try and get Redman and/or Day, but we don't just need any old rubbish. If there's only depth players available, grab them for almost nothing and draft well.

That's the key. We want short term depth to cover some holes, so you don't want to be trading out useful capital and giving 3 or 4 year contracts to fill that need. I'd rather us take the Keane sort of risk and go for a high upside risk that at worst you're married to for a year or two that you can re-sign if they work out than sign a BZT for 3 years for example.

It just means we have to draft extremely well this year, and not trade away all our picks for future picks.

Need to address midfield class with our first pick, which it sounds like there's a few available in that range.

A small/medium forward, a KPD and a ruck with our later picks is what I'd like to see. Would also consider a big bodied mid such as Wheaton or McAuliffe.

Dee's can find room to pay him but we can't...?

Let's just roll out the slop in Ned and Murphy smh

More we shouldn't then we can't.

After all, McAdam and Doedee are peas in a pod at the moment. In sectors where the club is just flushed with young talent and are prime players to move on.

Not a chance at this point. It would be too far gone, nor I doubt Adelaide cares at all if both goes.

At the moment, it just seems like a shit and uninspiring trade period for most teams this year. The big dominoes seemingly haven't fallen for whatever reason.

Move players on when you're flush with talent AND they will get you good compensation. 29 year old McAdam isn't going to get us good enough compensation to make it worthwhile.

Agreed. I'd much rather Burgess for a year than BZT for three.

Lot of early gloom and doom around here. Trade period hasn't begun and people are writing us off. Could be a rabbit busting to get out of a hat? We shall see.

I'd say don't get your hopes up and you won't be disappointed. Draft night is where we'll likely be scratching the trading itch.

I stopped listening years ago. The show is absolute garbage and all the breaking news is delivered faster on Twitter
During a boring day at work a few years ago I thought I'd give it a go. Lasted literally 5 minutes I think before tapping out. Such boring, repetitive, speculative and uninformed dross.

Ads for Continental bloody Tyres every five minutes lol.

You spend 70% of your time listening to ads. Absolutely outdated concept.
The ads are sometimes the only part of the broadcast worth listening to.
