Do we really need three "young player" awards?

Why not - especially as they each utilise a different criteria for their awards

'Rising Star' - eligibility is for those 21 & under at the start of the season and with less than 10 games experience

AFLCA Best Young player - based on the coaches votes polled over a rolling 2 year period, and is more open on age eligibility than the RS. Past winners have included the likes of Tom Stewart & Tim Kelly

AFLPA Best First Year Player - initially voted on by the teams to see who they nominate as their best first year player. Once the 18 nominations are known, the full playing group then vote (except no voting for their own team)


I think it works well as you're seeing it from different perspectives
