TOP GUNS OUT OF COMBINE TESTING
A NUMBER of high-end talents will be sidelined from testing at this week's Telstra AFL Draft Combine, which begins on Friday at the MCG.
There will be 67 prospects attending the Combine, with testing starting on Friday afternoon with the 2km time trial. A skills session will also take place on Saturday at the AIA Centre before athletic testing – such as agility, sprints and jumps – take place at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Sunday.

Levi Ashcroft's shoulder surgery this week adds him to the list of top-end draft hopefuls to be sitting out of the Combine, with fellow top-10 talents Sam Lalor (hamstring), Sid Draper (back) and Murphy Reid (ankle) also not going to test.

Isaac Kako is coming back from ankle surgery so will also not test, as won't Cooper Hynes, who carried an ankle concern late in his season.
Xavier Lindsay's PCL knee injury that prematurely ended his draft campaign will keep him out of taking part in the tests, while a hip issue will mean Sandringham Dragons prospect Luke Trainor won't take part in the testing. – Callum Twomey
Chatted to Tobie this week.
Hoping he can go sub-6 minutes tomorrow, subject to the weather.

Has Marcus Ashcroft had a vasectomy yet? The guy is singlehandedly threatening the integrity of the AFL competition.

What other pro sport organisation has 9 teams play out of 1 city?
What other pro sport organisation has 9 teams play out of 2 stadiums?
What other pro sport organisation makes a team, play their home games, away from home an hour away?
What other pro sport organisation has a greater variance in distance travelled by teams?
What other pro sport organisation has such an imbalanced fixture?

The AFL is inherently inequal. Everyone just needs to get over it.
Pointing out additional inequalities doesn't mean we shouldn't address any inequality. That's dictatorship logic there ;)

The father-son rule brings in a lot clicks for the media for better or worse. I have people at my work ask about them all the time and get excited by the notion.
When a sport makes decisions based on media clicks, then you have a big problem.

I think we have enough examples in this world that show that optimising for media clicks doesn't end well.

Interesting its come out that both West Coast and Melbourne have strong interest in Cooper Hynes.

27. Cooper Hynes
Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Metro

Midfielder/forward, 190cm, 28/2/2006
Talent League stats (avg): 23.7 disposals, 4.7 clearances, 1.5 goals
The Age’s August top 30: N/A
Hynes makes his debut in our rankings after an eye-catching season where his powerful and aggressive playing style drew comparisons with ex-North Melbourne captain Jack Ziebell and current Roo Cam Zurhaar. West Coast and Melbourne are two of his biggest fans, but there are other clubs that would not consider him in this draft range. Hynes’ endurance will need to improve if he is to play any meaningful midfield minutes in the AFL, but his forward craft and clearance work are rated highly. He and Langford provided a strong one-two punch for the Stingrays.

Callum Twomey seems to think Richmond's pick 1 is down to Lalor and FOS. Both haven't got the runs on the board thanks to interrupted seasons but watching short clips I don't think anyone can deny the talent.

Based on the vids I’ve seen I still like the look of FOS

Looks like he has the touch of class and brilliance that some of the others don’t have

I know his year has been a bit down, possibly due to some injuries, but I’d take him over Smith / Langford on exposed form

Don’t mind what I’ve seen of Draper

Lalor haven’t really seen enough to form an opinion

Interesting

Lalor 1, and FOS and Draper much further down

Feel like if Tiges could snag a Lalor and one of the other two (presuming we get another high draft pick) we’d have done well

I like they have Melbourne at pick 5 bidding on Isacc Kako
He is every bit as good as the wizard
Would be astute pick by Melbourne
The fact Essendon have committed to the kid would force them to match the bid

That is incredible from Langford. He’s obviously worked extremely hard all year to get himself to that level. Just gone up in my book.
Not knocking Langford's hard work, but his endurance test numbers were always solid. That wasn't the knock on him at all.

Its the 20m sprint and agility times that we should be looking out for.
