I keep hearing Taj Hotton would be a top 5 pick if not for injury. Doesn't that mean a club should go after him in the top 10 unless they believe his body is made of Swiss cheese? Particularly clubs with multiple picks like Melbourne and Richmond. Yet I keep seeing him fall to GWS in phantom drafts.

Super fast talented player - i.e. Shai Bolton. But has been injured and hasn't proved himself is what I've heard. I'd like us to take a risk on him. Seems a good shot to be valuable. But then we are building a list almost from scratch, and maybe hsi type isn't such a priority. he's one I'm really wanting to see where he will end up.

Good talent is always a priority though. Even if a player is more of a cherry on top rather than a piece of the actual cake, I think teams would rather have a good cherry than a mediocre piece of cake..

I must admit this is the first time in years I have not really followed this draft as I knew Sydney would be getting some pretty bad picks late in the first round and it wasn't worth following too closely since at that point it would be impossible to predict who Beatson was going to call with picks 23 and 25 or something like that.

In saying that though, to get a bit informed, when is Twomey and Kevin Sheehan doing their mock draft they do every year?

Clearly you haven’t been keeping up, this is the super draft and the next Judd or Hodge will still be available at pick 27 (1st pick of the second round) and bottom 6 teams will be falling over themselves to offer a F1 to get back into this years draft.
Sydney’s picks look like being Buddy & Parker replacements.

:p

Buddy and Lockett I am thinking. I think their replacements would work well together in the forward line.

I have heard that while there is not a lot of super top end talent in the Harley Reid mold, the draft does go deep, so the player you get at 5 isn't that much better than the player you get at 20. The drop off isn't as high as most drafts.

Now that is a quotable quote "would rather have a good cherry than a mediocre piece of cake". In our case I reckon you are right. But sometimes the decent role player is worth a lot to the list. Right now we need pieces to build around, so go talent.

I understand what you are saying, but that has nothing to do with my reply to the OP.

He was saying something to the effect, that the Northern clubs do sfa for providing a pathway for kids, and their development.

I was saying that is not correct.

This is the system the AFL put in to place, we’re just playing by its rules.
Strange how the Ashcroft's and Marshall have done most of their development playing in the CTL for the Dragons, Vic's APS system and Vic Metro, I get it that the Ashcroft's are F/S but Marshall sure isn't.
