If Berry was available and we took Datoli I would consider rioting.

Strange how the Ashcroft's and Marshall have done most of their development playing in the CTL for the Dragons, Vic's APS system and Vic Metro, I get it that the Ashcroft's are F/S but Marshall sure isn't.
So this was the OP I was replying to, and conversation I was involved in, so the relevance of your post is???

Are you saying the same about the Camporeale twins developing in SA and going to a Vic club?
The vast majority of (northern state) players, if not all, were already paying AFL within the established AFL pathways before joining club academies, playing well enough for clubs to identify their talent and call dibs on them.

The fact that so many club academy players get drafted so highly shows that it's just a dibs process. If the club academies were actually growing the AFL platform, the strike rate wouldn't be so high.
Many of these kids join at the ages of 11 and 13.

The academy teams are no different to any of the CTL teams, drawing their kids from the local clubs, and congregating talent into supposed high performance teams.

Sydney and GC have ~380 odd boys each across their age groups. Brisbane has about ~250 boys across it's age groups. No idea about GWS's numbers.

I don't believe the strike rate is anywhere near as high as what you imagine. Otherwise each academy team would be producing similar numbers of draftees of the same quality as say the Eastern Rangers or GWV Rebels each year, and that's simply not happening.

Feels like it a bit but maybe it's because no one knows who the clear number 1 is compared to past editions and it's quite an even draft from the Top 20 as well:

Did have an educated guess of what the Top 40 would be providing draft picks don't get traded from now on but didn't know where to post it exactly so hopefully this is the right place to do so:

I hope we take Clancy Dennis he will develop into a very good genuine defender at AFL level I think, one that will put defending first like an Andrews or Weitering.

Going through his stats every colts game he played no key forward managed to kick more than 2 goals for the year.

Very good draft for Richmond (just replace Allan with Lindsay or J Whitlock and would be perfect)

Im buying you a beer if Berry gets to Richmond in the 20's

Agree re Allan for tigers…..everybody else there is pretty elite by foot. Wouldn’t make sense to go Allan. Excellent haul for tigers. Smillie so late is terrific for you.

Lalors competitiveness puts him above FOS for #1 imo....

I dont know why the Tiges havent been linked closer to Lindsay with pick 10/11?
The general thought is that he will be a 200 gamer....Take that IMO...

Draper at 7 is a lol. Won't happen. A lot of weird selections in there frankly.
It's funny, I've seen several phantom drafts where one of Smilie, Draper, Langford fall to 7 and every time there's someone that says it won't happen. But reality is at least one of them falls, Draper will fall if Crows don't pick him.
For reference, I originally had Sid Draper at Adelaide's selection at pick 5 for the whole year until very recently.

It probably just depends on what the final draft order will be and which club has selections however the Crows wanting to trade up to pick 2 just to grab Jagga Smith is a very weird strategy IMO unless they rate him very highly over Draper.

Agree, also rumours that they'd pick Langford over Draper are very weird too

One would think choosing the local boy would be more beneficial than a potential "flight-risk" Victorian (especially if they play in similar positions), but good job to them if they select one of Smith or Langford and they become a star and ends up staying long-term at the club.

They did it once, with Ebert and Dangerfield. Dangerfield was amazing there, but indeed did leave later. Whether that plays a role, not sure

Maybe that could be part of their thinking but it's just a massive risk to play IMO especially if it doesn't pay off.
