There is only 2 ways in which the North trade doesn't look like a total stuff up: either the kid ends up being a generational talent, in which case who cares what you gave up? Or they have more or less confirmed LDU is gone as a FA next year so will get a good pick back that way.

Even of LDU is gone it's a moot point. They could have both firsts next year.

The only way it makes sense to me is if next years draft is genuinely trash

I love the trade by North. They need key position talls not mids and they will probably if there are quality key position early in next years pool. They saw Whitlock as a swing who can play both ends and by getting Richmond's 2nd rounder enables them to trade there own for next year and they may trade in early tomorrow to get another one.

Honestly, close to the dumbest trade I’ve seen, if not the dumbest.

KPFs take 3-5 years to come on. They could’ve kept their future first and taken the best KPF in next year’s draft who is likely much, much better than Whitlock.

It was a long night, but Foxtel would always milk it for all it's worth.

Richmond's rebuild selections looked good on paper, but we all know that not all players work out once they start AFL-level football (even top 10 picks), so like on all draft picks, the jury's out until we see them playing.

North giving away a F1 for a second round in this draft was controversial. Again, how we judge it will depend on how good (or bad) Whitlock ends up being.

Pull the trigger and trade a future first for Shanahan.

Knowing us we’ll trade a future first and pick up dodson who will never play if Conway comes on and Edwards will then be rendered a wasted pick

It's only a wasted pick if one of them can't be traded for a good return or they are injury busts.

Essendon have a better fr1 to trade for shanahan than us. I wonder if we can trade for Dodson at 30.

If the draft pans out that way I'd snap up gerryn at our 40s pick unless we go davidson/henderson.

If they rated him as a top 15 they should have split 2 for 8 and a future 1st for example. This is a dumb dumb trade.

I don't think they need a ruck plus they will get offered future 1sts for 28.
Also if they want davidson they are better to trade 28 out then trade in a 40s pick for davidson instead of using 28 on him.

yeh i have absolutely no expectation that this is anywhere near close.

there was lots of "mail" about us being hot on dodson so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see us move up to get him. hopefully our F1 is safe now. Still lots of players I like.

Agree! Perfect duncan/touhy replacement and adds something different to our mid mix.

Duncan will be difficult to replace. At his peak, very similar to Pops Kelly who often went unnoticed (to many outsiders) but was very much a barometer of the team.

Shame, because I always thought Duncan would be one of those players who would not hit the wall quickly. Could see him playing at a high level into his mid 30's but he's been cooked for the best part of 18 months now.
