Bo Allan and Hotton have the x factor that you can't ignore.
Travaglia is just a very good football player.
Reid and Lindsay your more dependable, no fuss players.
Berry I like but I like others small forwards more a bit later.

Unless you are an absolute gun you first learn you craft at half back and then morph into the mid-field.

Well, is Bo a bit of a gun already.

He's already doing it at WAFL and playing well and even though he didn't get huge possession counts, he is impactful out of contest and if that translates to AFL which it should, you would have to seriously think about playing him at the back end of the midfield rotation early on.

The other aspect he would bring is that he is a two way player in the midfield and loves to burst away from packs just as much as clamping down a tackle on the opposition. It would mean we would have a big bodied midfield lineup of Wines, Drew and Allan if need be, against the the big midfielders like Geelong.

There's some obvious strengths that are attractive. But they should not mask some of the obvious weaknesses too

Not as keen on Allan as some, classic case of Athlete first, footballer second. Hes going to need years of midfield development, as he himself has admitted. As a junior he was a shutdown defender, who has only recently been thrown into the midfield.

If he's available at this point, the Power will heavily consider after the retirement of Charlie Dixon. Whitlock's size, athleticism and skills could make him a wonderful forward or ruckman at the next level.

31. Port Adelaide -- Harrison Oliver

There aren't many safer picks in the draft than Oliver, a classy running defender who rarely plays a bad game. It's quickly become an area of need for the Power, and Kane Farrell

Recruiters haven't forgotten his shutdown ability for the Stingrays and Port Adelaide remain in need of a long-term answer down back.

Shanahan is better than whitlock in my opinion.

I definitely get concerns about Allan's midfield craft but my understanding is that he's played in the backline most of his life and obviously something happened to push him into the midfield like a burst of athleticism that becomes undeniable. So he's playing midfield a bit later in his footballing life as opposed to those Vic City kids groomed from birth and just about a total package when they hit the AFL.

The other thing is that while his old man didn't kick 8 goals on debut for Footscray, his old man was an excellent midfield type and IIRC he got a few AA's while at the Hawthorn juggernaut.

I’ve seen him play some games in the Wafl and there’s nothing that stands out to say he’s a top ten pick in this draft.
I’m not saying he’s bad just he doesn’t stand out like you would expect from a so called talented player.
I seen guys like coniglio play for Subi before GWS picked him up and he just screamed talent.
Allan just looks like a ok state league player.
I don’t get the hype.

Telling new recruits he's likely the only coach they will ever have so falling in love with him now is a pretty good career move.

I think they expect Armstrong to be off the table but did talk about Whitlock, Shanahan and Faull. They're making the call based on Charlie Dixon retiring though.
