Best mid/small, Reid/Berry/lindsay/hotton - interesting that Reid and Berry are both around 181cm, but one is seen as small)
Best tall/ruck , luv Gerryen ( if Hynes slips from early 20s ,then maybe move on him here)
Best Taller Back, Baratt (unless Hannaford or Davis slip perhaps)
Speculative Tall, West/Nicholls ( must have strong contested overhead marking skills, not just lead up type)
Would add Dennis to the Speculative Tall back role. Wish Reid would slip to us. Huge fan of Gerreyn, Barratt and West as potential picks.

If we rounded our draft with Hynes, Gerreyn, Dolan and Dennis I'd have no issues. Dennis reminds me of Harris Andrews in his draft year. No nonsense defender that shuts down his opponents and strong in marking contests

You really think we'll all of a sudden play with 5 small forwards in DBJ, Rioli, Richards, SPP and Berry under Ken? I just don't see that kind of change happening in 2025.

SPP coming off an ACL might not necessarily be a lock in for round 1.
DBJ can make room for Berry.

Change is exactly what we need in 2025

Disagree on this one. Our small forwards are actually in decent shape now.
You are adding SPP and Richards to what we had this year. That gives us Rioli, SPP, DBJ and Richards. Chuck in a resting JHF or Rozee, we are perfectly fine.

SPP coming of an ACL isnt exactly a lock for round 1
DBJ is makeshift forward. He could make way for a actual forward who is one for the best in their draft year.
Richards isn't proven at AFL level just yet 9 gamer being the sub a few times doesn't exactly give me confidence.
Hopefully he does well next season.

Change is what we need but we aren't getting it in 2025 mate. What makes you think after 12 years, this is the year we change the way we play?

And why would you drop a bloke that got the most goals + assist last year? He's no longer a makeshift forward. Doesn't matter if SPP starts round 1 or not, that's not going to be the difference between picking Berry or a mid. We have Barrett coming in as well. The gain we have from playing Berry instead of DBJ in the short term is minimal. I'd rather have Rozee there and take a mid.

Dennis vs Baratt, both around 195cm , Dennis more dour defensive shutdown type whereas Baratt more agrressive attacking type who can also play forward. Probably go with Baratt , however he may be gone , so Dennis is an option.

Would not expect SPP back in the side before Anzac day?

Im saying change is what we need. Not implying Hinkley or the coach panel will change their method in 2025.
I think you misunderstood what I said. But thats ok.

So from what your saying based off last season DBJ will be perform the same in 2025?
Marshall in season 2022 kicked 45 goals had a breakout year and after that he steadily declined in terms of goals.
So what if Barrett comes in? Is he AFL ready? No so that point is irrelevant

Take a mid? You mean take Hynes with pick 13 a slow player in U18s who definitely be caught out at AFL level. He still building on his tank. Big bodied yes but we could easily draft a big bodied mid to play that same role with later picks in Davis, Urquhart, Josh Murphy etc.

You seriously think a Hinkley team that wasn’t even remotely competitive in finals will be in a premiership window after losing one of our best and most important players?

In all likihood we’re a 7th -15th afl side for the next couple of years.
This was your response to my claim that we are in a premiership window- and it’s a pile of pessimistic horseshit.

Whilst your retort is opinion, the facts indicate otherwise. Only Brisbane has a better win-loss ratio since 2020. Only Brisbane and Geelong have better percentage. In the last 4 years, there have been 4 different premiers- we have won more home-and-away games than 2 of them in the last 4 years (Collingwood, Geelong), the same as Melbourne and one less than Brisbane.

We have done that with a squad substantially younger than those 4 premiers. We had the youngest team in the 2024 finals and a number of our best players are 24 or younger- Rozee, Butters, Horne-Francis, Lukosius, Bergman and Georgiades. We have yet to see the best of young talented players like Jones, Sinn and Burgoyne.

Whilst these facts are taken from the home-and-away season, that is intentional and appropriate because it is the home-and-away season that determines whether we finish in the eight or not. Your 7th-15th prediction has no logical fact basis.

It is our poor recent finals record that is the only logical basis for claiming we are not in the premiership window. The very same record could have been leveled at Brisbane 12-24 months ago- they went out in straight sets in 2019 and 2021 (losing 3 home finals), they lost a home prelim in 2020 and an away prelim in 2022. Since then, they’ve made 2 GFs winning the second.

Your point about losing Houston just exposes the “glass half empty” attitude behind your opinion. We gained Lukosius and Richards. Butters finished third in the Brownlow and isn’t even our best clearance player by the stats- JHF at only 21 yo beat him.

All this supports my key point- we should have a mind to 2025 when we use #13.

Maybe maybe.

You know how many small forwards taken in the draft are averaging better than Dbj and spp?

To look at 2022 draft
Charlie Clarke , Darcy jones ,Jacob Konstanty all taken early: most of them cut, jones averaging well less than Dbj and spp.

It’s not only not a sure thing a small forward is an upgrade on spp and Dbj, it’s extremely unlikely based off of evidence.

There are just as many questions on Berry as there are on Hynes. His size, endurance, lack of midfield craft all are in question by recruiters. If not someone who's kicked a tonne of goals this year would not be ranked around the 20s.

And no I mean take a mid but maybe you misunderstood that. If Hynes is the only mid available at our pick then you take him. But if Reid, Smilie or someone else from the elite midfield group falls then you pick them ahead of Hynes.
