If it's Whitlock I'm going to be ok with that.
Good hands athletic and sure footed.

There's a suggestion Richmond have more than a passing interest at some point though so if they take him early it's going to be Armstrong getting pushed back?

Those are his strengths for sure. Both so was Hipwood's at u18 level. His height advantage will not exist in AFL level which is my worry

If Whitlock goes to Richmond I think Shanahan gets pushed back

He looks stronger than Hipwood.

Probably closer to Marshall for mine and I see the attraction for Port.

I will take Shanahan but OK with any of them.

Think its actually a great draft for quality talls rather that mids?

The KPFs I'd take, across various stages of the draft, are these

Armstrong, Shanahan, Faull, Gerreyn, West, Sims, Polkinghorne, Ravenhill

Overall I think this draft has depth in every position which is why recruiters are crazy about this draft.

If we get 16 and 21, I'd almost rule out Shanahan and Reid getting to 16 which will become 19 on the night.

If we stay at 13 and 29, I would say maybe Reid and Gerreyn is a true possibility. Or Shanahan and Gross/Hannaford.

We need to explore a trading possibility with Sydney. This is a hypothetical but I think it could suit all parties involved

Swans: get 13, give 19 and 22
Saints: give 8, get 15 and 22
Port: give 13 and 29, get 19 and 16
Giants: give 15 and 16, get 8 and 29

In isolation the way I see it is as Port getting 19 and 22 for 13. Then trading 22 and 29 for 16.

Cheers. If we keep 13 and 29 and go smaller at 13 (say Reid, Travaglia, Berry), who is the big forward or defender you’d prioritise at 29? Gerryn, Sims, Barratt, etc?

First time I have seen either of the Whitlocks, but if his balance, decision making, disposal, and marking in that clip are anything to go by then he looks a very strong chance to make the grade, and with his bro apparently having similar traits they could bookend a team for a decade or more.

I'd go Gerreyn at 29 and then hope Barratt gets to 36 but even if he doesn't I'd get Dennis

The marking part is where I'm uncertain about him. At the moment he's taking contested marks because he's taller than the other guys. I currently haven't seen him taking marks because of his forward craft (i.e working his opponent under the ball, clearing the drop zone etc). If his marking prowess doesn't translate to AFL, I think he'll be an average player. From what I've watched of Armstrong, Shanahan, Faull, Sims, Gerreyn (the latter 2 being a different type of KPF), I've seen more forward craft hence why I'm more convinced

200cm at 18 possibly/likely translates to 203/205 cm at 21. He's always going to be tall.

Who will be the steal of the draft?

It’s the question that all recruiters will be asking themselves – who will be a gem in the rough?

Players who have suffered injuries this year and therefore not been able to showcase their true potential fit this bill, as do guys who perhaps haven’t put together the under 18’s year they’d have hoped for but have still shown promising signs.

Hipwood is the #1 key forward in the current premiership team and would easily get a game for us. Not sure this is the criticism it is intended to be.

If Richmond take Whitlock, it will probably push Shanahan back. Melbourne have been heavily linked with Armstrong.

Richmond interviewed both the Whitlocks again yesterday.

Not sure why both would be interviewed.. unless they did the sensitive twin thing and didn’t want to leave one out and hurt their feelings.

They have so many picks they could draft them both without even realising. Would be an uncomfortable first day at training though ;)

Who are you two? Why are you here?

11 and 18 = Whitlock x 2

Wonder if we have tried to spook them with all the talk of J Whitlock to Port at #13? Would push another top 10 player down the list.
