I can't see us passing. Rumours abound that plenty of clubs have interest in him. If that's the case I'd say we'd be thrilled to welcome him aboard as a player we have special dibs on.
I hope they take Anderson before our first pick, as that would mean a better player becomes available to us.
Sorry to be a dampener, but I don't see it.
Full trust in MM and the team though.

Small observation from reading the espn phantom draft, but it is f****** insane that the afl stopped listing the weight of draftees

It's been pretty funny watching people saying that 1. It doesn't matter and 2. That it wasn't the influence from the AFLW that caused the change.

It's actually ridiculous they don't list it anymore.
We have access to an NGA kid who is 183cm, but that means nothing without knowing his weight due to the type of strengths he possesses.

Same goes for Jagga Smith. There's a big chance he goes right at the top of the draft, but physically he might not quite be ready to impact just yet. I'm sure the supporters of the club he goes to would appreciate knowing his current measurements in order to temper their expectations.
In fact, he could even gain 3-5kgs over the pre-season, but we won't ever know it or be able to celebrate that development.

What do you think of Connor Nash's ball drop?

Anderson actually possesses traits similar to Nash, just minus the height.
He also has a better ball drop than Nash already and has grown up playing the game.

We won't reach beyond our player rankings to match a bid if it comes earlier than we expect, but if Connor Nash is the player comparison and it sits AROUND that pick 33 mark, wouldn't you accept that as reasonable?

Worpel's kicking was incorrectly diagnosed by many on this forum as being bad bc of his low disposal efficiency.
His technique was always sound to my eye.

His decision making suffered early on because he would often smash it on the boot by force of habit playing as an inside mid, who mostly gained possession under extreme pressure.

Comparing Anderson's horrendous ball grip and drop to a very proficient Worpel is quite wrong IMO.
The only player I have seen remediate a terrible kicking action to become a serviceable kick and a very good player is Brad Sewell.

It's generally a bad bet to make that a player can fix a terrible kicking technique.
Aside from that, Anderson's ball handling and disposal is quite ordinary too.
Super athlete and competitor, but I don't think he's worth more than a rookie spot, if at all.

I can see why he appeals to some.
He goes at it like a bull out of the gate, and that excites a lot of people.
Not for me.
Pass.
Regardless of your opinion isn’t it nice to strongly debate list spot 44 for a change?

As much as I agree it’s a joke. The old system was rubbish too, where weights and heights were never updated. Guys that were clearly over 100kg still listed as low 90s etc.

Nash has put a fair bit of work into his kicking and has become quite good at hitting targets. However, his technique still looks ragged and he is a poor shot at goal.

Aside from kicking and maybe physical strength, I am not convinced that Cody Anderson is a fair comparison with Nash who is a superb athlete with very quick reflexes and great peripheral vision, is a lot taller and has a bag of tricks from rugby and gaelic football.

I reckon Anderson would be a good acquisition with our second pick but I would be concerned if we passed up on someone like Sims by using our first pick on him. Fortunately, there is a good chance Anderson will be accessible after we have taken someone else with our first pick.

Better than Anderson's.
Nash does have a rigid ball drop, but he has better overall ball handling than Anderson.
If you're suggesting he's going to be a project player, then I agree with you as he will need quite a lot of work.
Maybe his athletic profile and competitiveness makes that worth the investment.

I heard an interview with Sam Mitchell, can’t remember where, but in reference to Calsher dear he said something to the effect of Calshers competitiveness and how that’s translated to development has forced him to rethink how highly he values competitiveness as a trait for young players.

Yeah, Dear's drive to improve has really made an impression on Mitchell.
But Dear did not come with technical deficiencies like Anderson (IMO).
Mitchell's comment I believe were more in relation to learning what was expected of Dear as a forward
e.g. positioning, work rate, staying in the contest etc.

Of course the club is in the best position to make a call.
Just banter until the draft...

Twomey reported that we would take just two picks in this draft. Can anyone confirm this? Could we end up with Sims & Anderson?

It's the difference between Calsher and Emerson Jeka for example.

Bit surprised Sam didn't already appreciate the importance of competitiveness - the key to his own story.

I think we are over analysing Cody here. Kicking and ball mechanics are taught by the coaches and senior players. You can improve with hard work and dedication. Brad Sewell was mentioned then there was Ben Stratton a shocking kick. Of course there is always Sam Mitchell.

I have seen punk and gunston show our younger players at training how to hold the ball. What angle etc at training when they are having shots on goal from different parts of the ground. Kicking and and handballing is refined at AFL level. Almost every part of your game is improved. What you can't teach is competiveness. Many higher ranked Kps Watts, Schache who had great techniques of kicking the ball only wish they were a lot more like Cody.

Cody will be bid on most likely after our first pick. We will match that bid

Disagree. They're agile and quick.

Need more in your bag of tricks than being tall and big
The quote I responded to was "KPFs are going the way of the big bulky centre in the nba" meaning he thinks they are disappearing, i said " no because they kick most goals and set up others when they contest the long ball" then you respond with this nonsense, what in the fk are you on about?.................. what in the fk?

Surely his nickname is Viva?
I Dont Get It Over My Head GIF by Lil Jon

Might be a little subtle for some.

Or anyone born after 1980.

I think anyone born after 1980 is a stretch...

Anyone born after 1960 might struggle. The Viva was long gone by the time I was aware of car models...and I'm no spring chicken....I was only aware of it much later.

(Google tells me it stopped being available in Australia in 1966)

Am I reading this post wrong ?

You want Cody picked before our 1st so we don’t match & get someone better ?

Yet if he weren’t picked before our 1st, we’d get who we want with that pick & get Cody for junk picks later.

Sorry if I’ve misinterpreted your post

The Vauxhall Viva was built in Australia from 1963-1970 and was based on the German made Opel Kadet (another GM subsidiary). The Viva has a 56hp 1159cc 4 cylinder engine and a 4 speed manual transmission with coil front suspension, it was a great improvement on the earlier model.
