Cal saying we may look to move back from pick 33. Surely not!
Crazy not to consider it.
Depends who is left when it gets to that pick & whether we can trade into a better position in 2025.

Pick 33 for a contenders future first?

Edit: I just reckon if we have to give up the next 6 years drafts for pick 20 why not?

Cal's write up talks about Lions list management team working on maximising every draft point. They seem switched on and if Levi is bid on at 5 as predicted then pick 27 will be on the table. Hope our list management team is switched on to grab it. Can be switchroo or the trade I proposed earlier.

Get pick 27 and if our target player is not available, I bet Cats will table their F1 to grab Alex Dodson.

Blues may also be looking to trade up from pick 38, they are the other party.

If we keep our pick 33 then would love to see us pick Thomas Sims, Kayle Gerreyn or Charlie Nicholls in that order.

I reckon we will dangle F1 and 33 to try get Hotton with one of GWS’s pick
I don't think so. We'll grab the beast later on as another mid, we'll take a good tall. The future first along with a strong pick in this years draft would leave us with nothing decent draft wise for two years. A huge gamble. If it comes off and he's a star. great. But gee it's a huge gamble that could have big ramifications going forward considering the amount of quality tall's in this draft that suit our timeline beautifully seemingly available at pick 33.

Twomey omitting Charlie Nicholls from his top selections makes me even more certain that we should not trade back in/up unless it's a Weddle type scenario. There will be some very good players around at pick 33.

Tom Gross sliding. You'd snap him up at 33.
Same with Moraes.
Wasn't Moraes was being talked about as a potential top 10 pick for this draft around this time last year or very early this year? I recall we were all quite bummed to find he wasn't going to be in our NGA.

I'd be very happy with him at 33 and Anderson as a rookie. Would be a steal given our draft hand.

I am in the ‘let’s target a key tall forward’ camp. However not much to choose from as a lot of them appear to be what I would describe as NQRs, on the short side and/or skills are questionable.

It would be okay if Jack Whitlock was available but not sold on his brother, especially as a forward.

Of the remainder, I like Stumpf who is likely to be available.

Not sold on Sims. Nicholls kicking looks extremely iffy. Gerreyn looks too similar in type to our MSD selection last year - Scaife.

I doubt Moraes would get to 33 dogs have 25 and he’s exactly their sort of player. If we trade back 33 and draft James Barrat, is that considered a form of tanking?😂

Faull could do his namesake as well. Happy with Sims and Gerreyn but hard pass on Nicholls his kicking action is terrible.
Jeez, I love how much we can all diverge on a player.
Makes the draft game fascinating tbh.

Nicholls does have a high ball drop, but it's not catastrophically bad to my eye (easy to tweak and fix), and easier to remedy than what I see in Cody Anderson. What's your opinion on his kicking?

I actually don’t have the same view on Anderson as others. I thought his kicking technically was ok and he also was competent on his left too but his decision making sometimes was poor. To me that’s easier to fix than a long held technique similar to how Worpel improved this year. He to my eye hasn’t changed his technique he just kicked more within his capabilities. I think Nicholls has good attributes but felt his kicking was pretty bad - mostly ball drop as you say.

Yeah you're spot on. This time last year he was already being talked about as a top dozen player and there was a fair bit of wailing and gnashing of teeth that we couldn't get him from NGA even though his dad is Brazilian.

Anyone care to list the top 5 KPF in this draft and our chances of being able to choose them at pick 33?
Probably Shanahan, Armstrong and the Whitlocks the best KPF bets. None of them will be there by the mid-twenties even.
Then there's Faull, Sims, Gerreyn & Nicholls.
If we were definite on a KPF and it was out of those last four I'd prefer Gerreyn or Nicholls. Faull & Sims have periods where they disappear.

I wont be at all surprised if we leave all them and pick up someone like Hynes if available.

I like this line of thinking, especially if it improves the hand for 2025.

While everyone is scrambling to move up the order this year, our list profile is outstanding so it's not a bad move to use that to really get some value and come hard at a player that needs a trade in 12 months
