Yep. We thought it was Boak, Gray and Ebert. Then it was Wines. Now Butters, Rozee and JHF. All under the same regime. All have failed consistently to be at their best when it matters. Not ONE of them good enough or man enough to be the exception. Not farking one.

Probably our fault as after 2004 they started the double penalties for reports in grand finals, but starting a blue in a grand final is a wildly underused tactic these days. I am certain our shitheading upset Brisbane in 2004 and allowed us the early jump on them.

Just clean a bloke up late, don't go high just aim for the body. Maybe risk a minor report. Do something to get under their skin. Maybe a punch in the guts, it's safer than a bump that might hurt someone's head three actions later.

I think the bigger issue is that our better players, Butters, Rozee, JHF, Georgiades, Rioli, Wines, did not perform to their potential in two of three finals. There’s more to it than lack of talent. There’s a culture within our team/club where not being at your best when it matters occurs way too often. Someone or someones have set that (coaches), someone or someones have repeatedly executed that (players mentioned above and others before them), someone or someones have accepted it and therefore allowed it to propagate (board, executive, footy department, many fans).

Can’t argue with that, thing is our forward line consists of MG who’s back this year after a year off and Rioli who’s had problems staying on the park for all sorts of reasons.

I don't think we had many tough guys in 2007. Wazza wouldn't back down from a blue but was also a very clean player who would never instigate one. Chad Cornes maybe? Kane was a shit but also not really one for an all in. Brogan probably the only real enforcer type I remember. We should have given Thurstans a Dave Granger job.
