Absolutely...thankfully enough time has past for free thinking folk to be comfortable enough to admit this in public.

Put your hand up if you sponsored a life-size cardboard cut-out of yourself to be placed at any of the 2020 matches...

What a mad time in mankind that whole Covid era was.
Was that really a thing?! Must have slipped past without me noticing.... o_O

Must have been while I was binge-watching Ozarks.......

What are these whispers you talk about and where is the noise coming from
My very best guess is that someone has farted.....and loudly at that !!!!!!

I'm very very surprised to hear that there's some type of disharmony at Rsea.

Speaking of defence (and all this Battle rumouring this week), does it raise anyone’s eyebrow to see Darragh Joyce playing for Brisbane in the big lights tonight?
Made a ton of mistakes. I felt sorry for him.

I always thought when we had the big rivalry with the Cats around 2007-10 ish that the real difference was that they had us covered in the midfield. Sure we had Hayes, BJ and Ball and an aging Banga but the Cats had Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Corey, Ling, Kelly and Stevie J to throw at us. All strong bodies and skilful. More importantly they were regular goal kickers.

We had Rooey and Kosi as tall forwards but they could cover them with Scarlett and Taylor. The Cats got by with Mooney and a young Hawkins as their talls.

For mine it showed the importance of a strong midfield that can win the ball both inside and out and hit the scoreboard. Nothing I've seen since that time has changed my opinion on that.

A team reliant on Ming and a poor midfield only amplifies it.

A bit of it was their superior depth too. We had a good 22 but not a great deal of depth. We were probably the better side in 2009 but history remembers a winner. Win one and we probably win 2010 too. Popping the cork seems to build confidence and belief.

When we played Port at Marvel last time, we lost the game in one quarter - the second, when Port kicked 4.3 and we managed just 0.4. We had scooted out to a big lead at quarter time, and we matched Port after half time, but the damage was done in a very short window of time.

Does anyone remember that game, April 28th, 2023?

What happened there?

Here are the stats, in which we win almost every parameter.

But what happened?

I remember Doug getting caught by a bloke who was hanging out in the protected zone after an umpire randomly called play on.

Port goal.

Then Dixon got a BS free to finish us off

That's the one game this year where the umps genuinely flipped the outcome of the match. Port kicked for goal horribly but with balanced umpiring we win that day.

Reckon Max King is just about due to impact a game in a big way, hopefully today's the day.

Today we looked like a rebuilding club, it was probably the saddest I've felt watching us. Wednesday was a more positive session in comparison, we just didn't look like many players were up and about.

We seem to be persisting with this manic ball game plan. Lots of short risky 10-15m kicks and hospital handballs and always seemingly under pressure.

Nearly a full list to pick from, but we just lack passion or emotion or something. Maybe I'm just struggling a bit and couldn't see it today.

If I was to pick someone out it would be King, he was dominant. But that was against Cordy, Allison and occasionally Hammer and Keels so I'm tempering expectations. Howard is close to resuming full training but is almost the only one recovering- Hayes and Van Es obviously not there.

Arie trained well, credit where it's due, we just need the ball in his hands at every opportunity.

Henry did well when in the thick of it, hopefully he's 70% or more in the midfield this week.

Hugo and Hastie have some alpha energy going on, but in completely different ways. Gus in a fun laid back, surfer alpha vibe and Hugo in a would bite the head off a bat to scare the shit out of you vibe. As for Hugo, he trained really well today.

Pou working (well) on his movement in close, he's going to be special when it clicks. I don't care if he's built differently in his preparation, so was Rooey.

Wilson is struggling with decision making/composure with both kicking and handballing. First year player and his endurance makes up for any shortcomings but he's got improvements to make.

Both Nas and Bon looked really off. Nas with the old biting off more than he could chew and Bon with his trademark two or three coach killer shanks. Wilkie and Arie really showed them up today.

Lancey boy looked disinterested for the most part, in match sim he impressed at times - a really tough nut to crack. I'm sure he's fine, but his demeanour really worries me sometimes - from a personal pov not club pov.

Anyway, I'm lost and a bit disillusioned, can't predict us. Part of me thinks we'll stuff up plenty of short kicks, get a few called play on and lose the game from the turnovers.

I want to win, but then I'm already looking at the draft and realistically we need access to top talents. I like our ins and outs, would've preferred Stock for Bon as well and surprised Hugo can't crack another game. Perhaps we are developing a nice relationship between a few kids in the middle at Sandy.

Thanks for writing a great report.

If St Kilda got a dollar for every time soneone said this about Max King and Paddy McCartin when he was a Saint, we'd have cleared our AFL debt by now and be on the way to building a second grandstand at RSEA park.

It almost bought a tear to my eye Remboy.

I salute those oppo clubs..... ;) ;)

The biggest non story this week in the AFL universe has now closed.

After training,a group of us were having a bite to eat(a special shout out to the roast beef toasties too) and coffee's when big Ro walked past us.

Almost in unison....we said:

"Welcome back Ro"

He pi**** himself laughing and gave us a mega cheesy million dollar Ro smile.

It was one of his deluxe cheesy specials.

Great to have you "back" Ro !!!!!!!

I'm proud of myself....I didn't above mention Tom Morris once.

Mod rules prevent me from saying anything colorful about him.!!!!!

;);)

GREAT post

Can’t wait to see paddy Dow play his career best game today!

Surely bonner should be trialed at half forward?

Shanking ~50% of your tough kicks in the backline is diabolical for the team.

Doing the same at the other end of the ground isn't.
Wouldn't mind seeing Nas play on a wing or run on ball as well for a different look

Unfortunately can't make the AFL sanctioned blockbuster Saints v Port at 1.00 pm on a Sunday which is 11 degrees and pissing down.
We should make a killing out of this premium time slot, don't know why we get all this charity from the AFL.

He moved there in the second half last week. Didn't seem a bad move.
