Both CD and Richo said tonight "by ALL measures our football program has been successful".

It was clearly a predetermined talking picture which is insane gaslighting.

Every single member in the room was thinking "what about the measure of premierships"

Said to one of the members (Richo was within earshot) that Hinkley is a good minor round coach, but a woeful finals coach.
With some of the performances his premiership calibre list has dished up in the minor that actually matter (e.g. Russell Ebert tribute and against top 4/8 teams), not even this is true.

Went and was suitably underwhelmed.

Credit to them for the financial results and the developments, but they completely don’t get the football side of the business - which is the most important part of the business.

CD and Richardson repeatedly commented that we’ve been successful in the regular season, admitted we’d fallen short/hadn’t made a GF, but each time kept repeating that the football program had been successful.

They answered the questions they wanted to answer, not the questions they were asked. It was very much a display which wouldn’t have been out of place in Parliament House.

A question about failing to meet the 3 flags in 5 years Chasing Greatness plan and accountability to those failed goals was taken as an opportunity to answer a Dorothy Dixer and repeat the 6 pillars of the plan, with the 3 premierships in 5 years pillar essentially reduced to “did we win a flag? No. But we want to.”

A question on Ken’s contract came with reference to the 2023 “ask me in August debacle”. Koch and Richardson fumbled for a bit but landed on August not being relevant and Ken was contracted for 2025.

A question came with regards to the Adelaide constitution 2028 members control date, it was a good question and well researched (and the 4th year at least where an iteration of this question came up), I felt it was similarly ignored, but they at least came prepared to it this time. They chose to take answering it offline with the member who asked.

A very good question came late with regards to the club defining success, I.e, finals alone aren’t success, premierships are. Koch and Richardson fumbled their way through this and interruptions from the crowd, but essentially said nothing we hadn’t heard before.

Afterward I spoke to Richardson about what success is and the chasing greatness plan. Apparently they’re defining success as making finals/prelim final because the players need to feel good about themselves. “Young players need to feel confident, they can’t be feeling like ‘hey, we’ve made a prelim final but the punters hate us.’” I told him that you tell them they had a good season but weren’t successful, to be successful you have won a premiership, finals may be good, but it is not success unto itself.

Spoke about chasing greatness, clearly sees it more as a strategic “what would a great 5 years look like” goal rather than an actual goal to be achieved. He went on the attack when I told him that if we hadn’t met the goals someone needed to be held accountable for it, basically said “would you rather I put out goals like ‘win 1 premiership’ or ‘just make the 8’? Or get 70,000 members, more achievable goals?”. I responded “no, I’m glad you said 3 in 5, but how are you going to get to it? Who is being held accountable for underperformance?” Someone else cut in before he answered and he never came back to speak to me.

If they didn’t have to have an AGM they wouldn’t, it seems a nuisance to them. It was more of the same answers and same gaslighting. Feels very hopeless until we have more member appointed board members.

You didn't achieve that either Richardson you ****ing dickhead.

Expecting members to pay up in addition to their membership fees to the sentiment that 3 premierships in 5 years would be nice but we aren't really aiming for it seems borderline fraudulent considering their initial messaging.

So I'm not going to read other people's thoughts on the AGM until I post mine. I don't want any chance of being influenced.

So firstly, shocking turnout by members, very disappointing. This certainly doesn't help to convey our dissatisfaction with finals performances.

Secondly, a no show by Ken. Apparently a family wedding. What a coincidence that the AGM just happens to be on the same date. DAMAGE CONTROL BY THE CLUB, GUTLESS PR*CK BY KEN. An absolute sacking offence but was I the least bit surprised. No way, been onto that fraud since 2015.

Despite the lack of numbers there is no doubt the club is acutely aware that members are very dissatisfied with our finals performances. Whether this has been conveyed through letters, by phone during membership renewal, talk back radio post games or through the booing after the Lions game, I'm not sure, but it loomed large. Connor was also very aware of this issue when he spoke. A member raised the question about what the club is doing to address the players mental demons in regard to continual failure in finals. It was a great question & didn't go down very well with Koch & co but the point was clearly made & the member was not letting them off the hook. It had been discussed earlier (CD or MR?) that there would be changes to the game plan to improve finals performances (this is a change in sentiment from 12 mths ago imo & a welcome change). Koch did his usual Koch & talked several times about our winning percentage which obviously referred to our H&A record but I felt members weren't buying it.

This AGM had a very rushed feeling to it. New recruits were not interviewed, coaches were not interviewed. Connor & Janelle Cuthbertson were interviewed. Very impressed with Janelle. Was interesting to hear Connor say in his first year as captain he probably wasn't selfish enough in that he focussed too much on making sure everyone else was OK & that took a toll on his own game. He felt he didnt get that balance right. Candid stuff & I liked that. Think he will be better next season.

On a really positive note the clubs finances are very sound & spoke to Warren for a while & he is rapt with the board in regard to this which was great to hear. This has been stated before on here but was good to hear it directly from Warren. After speaking to Warren about a range of issues I have no doubt that we, as members, are in good hands. Am also rapt that George was elected & hope together they can bring more football accountability.

A member also asked a question about the composition of our board in relation to member control. This is raised each year & there is always reference to the Crows. There is no doubt our leadership think that members will only vote in footballers. I think our members are far more astute than this but as a safety play I would like to see 50% of board positions voted by members. We should be progressively working towards this aim.

The inevitable comparison with Brisbane was raised by Koch (not sure what their board position is, noone seemed to know exactly) but they believe we can emulate Brisbanes success. Koch again mentioned why didn't the Swans play that way against us in reference to their poor GF performance. He just doesn't get football & never will, but given that, he should refrain from making football comments & stick to what he does know.

Koch also said that we currently have over 50,000 members (all games, 3 game etc ??) for 2025, average home attendance was 37,000, member satisfaction highest in Afl?? ,MG are renewing their sponsorship & Port members are buying their cars. Hopefully I got these numbers correct.

Overall I came out way happier after this Agm than the previous one as I felt there is finally some recognition about our poor finals performances. I also feel we now have people on the board that will put football performance as the top priority which in theory should be easier to do given our much better financial situation.

Now to read other peoples feedback.

I agree with a lot of this but have a slightly different perspective which I've posted later on. They certainly didn't answer the questions they were asked with Richo particularly bad in this regard.

Pity I am not a member anymore as the first question I would be asking Koch is when did making finals count as a successful season?

That is not the Port Adelaide I grew up with.
It was a constant theme among members throughout the Agm. Imo the club knows just making finals is not good enough but they won't publicly admit it.

Koch also said ... member satisfaction highest in Afl??

Its pretty clear to me that Koch has become arguably the biggest issue at the club.

And his pushback to the member elect board questions finally give us clarity that that will never happen under his watch.

The only victory we have in this space is now I'm confident both Warren and George will push for this, but it looks like Koch has everything stitched up and has no intention on changing/moving on.

If we do stickers in the future, think it'll be more important for a "Sack Koch"

Spoke with Tredders for a while. He said one more member elect would be ideal. Asked him a few questions about Hinkley to which he replied "You know I can't answer that." Anyway, I tried! I'll tell you one thing for certain, there's no love lost where Caroline Wilson is concerned.
Also had a long conversation with Richo. Nice to know he's kept all my emails. He said the last one I sent could've been a bit more polite. I duly apologised as it was after the first showdown this year and I had a few bevvies under my belt .
Lastly, what a stark difference between Janelle Cuthbertson and Connor Rozee. Janelle, confident, articulate, thanked the members and supporters at the end. Connor, meek, poor body language, doesn't make eye contact with anyone of the floor, almost apologetic, no mention of the members and supporters. Stark difference.
All in all, an extremely poor turnout. Cheesey Mac is right. It had an extremely rushed feel and an imposition but I got a free beer at the end.

By offline do you mean privately?
If so then that is pathetic.

The ultimate self fulfilling prophecy.

Koch stacks the board and executive with non-footballers. What else are we as members meant to do?
