The most ambitious part of the goal was that the 8 non Victorian clubs have won 3 flags between them in the last 18 years. It's sheer fantasy to think we could win 3 on our own in the space of 5 years.

Regardless, a goal without a plan is just a wish. We were never winning a single premiership let alone multiple premierships with the current club wide cultural and personnel deficiencies.

They are clowns. Great stuff off field but on field nfi and are about to waste 2025 by doing the same again. That chart CD showed is embarrassing it illustrates the problem perfectly yet they don't see it lol. Talk about feeling etc the old man team of the cats came into our home prelim and gave us a record defeat as the home team. Just in the forgettory because hawthorn hit the post a week later.

AFL controlled clubs have won 1 of the last 19.

Absolutely. High level CEO's have a certain, unique aura about them when they walk into a room, which often strikes a balance between intimidating and statesmanlike. Richo possesses no such qualities....

If you didn't know who he was, you'd assume the Function Manager had popped out of the kitchen to check that the AGM was running smoothly.

It really is bizarre to be in a leadership position and just say a goal then take no steps whatsoever to achieve that goal.
It's because they have no idea what to do to achieve that goal, it's the football equivalent of copying Brendan Gale's homework but not copying the workings.

This is even more bizarre than the lack of accountabillity for failing to make it.

We set an ambitious goal, then did absolutely nothing to chase it. We even appeared to go with a austerity approach to Football Operations when we didn't replace Senior Assistant Michael Voss.

Thats hardly a reason to claim that 3 in 5 is never gonna happen.

Richmond hadn't won a Flag in 30 years Brendan Gale put forward their 10 year plan. So it was 37 years when started it.

Geelong hadn't won a flag in 44 years when they started their run of 3 in a 5 year span.
Neither team had finished Donuts as a coach though

Do the club at least acknowledge they're disappointed in not having a premiership?

It's the constant self praising of achieving nothing that shits me

I've said this before but they see winning the premiership akin to the way the Socceroos might see winning the World Cup - a distant summit to work towards and dream about but ultimately an ambition far too lofty to seriously contemplate let alone benchmark yourself against.

It's in this context you can understand the self congratulations for getting 'close' and the extremely aggressive defending of their record to anyone who dares question anything.

They did say they were disappointed, but those words were sandwiched between about a thousand 'yeah but we're doing a lot right' excuses or outright garbage. It's just them paying lip service to the idea of being disappointed by not achieving a goal they set for themselves.

The 3 flags in 5 years goal included SANFL and AFLW too so whilst it was still highly ambitious i think a lot of people failed to read that fine print and still to this day think of it as 3 AFL flags in 5 years.

Brisbane have achieved 3 in 5 years on this basis, with 1 AFL and 2 AFLW. Crows got 3 AFLW flags between 2017-2022.

They probably should've just said 1 AFL Flag, as that is the only one that really matters.

No matter how many times you compare an AFL side winning the flag to the Socceroos winning the World Cup as being equal it won't make it right.

The obvious Victorian bias aside, there are systems in place that give all AFL clubs enough opportunities to claim a premiership if they really want it. And the systems also allow you to go from rock bottom to a flag in fairly quick time with the right people involved.

It is not at all comparable to the Socceroos, i think there could be some talent pool issues there compared to other countries, they aren't all selecting from the same draft with the players earning the same income as other countries.

To suggest Port see the flag as a similar pipe dream to the Socceroos winning the World Cup is simply wrong.

We know we didn't win a premiership but...

We know we didn't make a grand final but...

Why do they talk about it in the exact same way then?

It's a tough competition, we're proud of making it this far, we don't have the talent other teams have but we've given it our best, etc.

Just admit you've failed a very achievable goal and give someone else a go.

Yep if you talk like minnow losers it becomes a subconscious issue as well as embedding itself in the walls.

They actively run away from the creed and other long forgotten club mantras and ethos not because 'it's not the SANFL anymore' herp derp it's because they are small time thinkers & scared.

I guess if the Socceroos had made the semi finals in 3 out of the last 5 world cups and quarter finals in one of the others then it could be somewhat comparable. The Socceroos probably would give themselves a chance for the win at the next world cup based on that form?

2014, 2020-21 i think we failed a very achievable goal but the 2023-2024 list probably hasn't been quite ready but has a lot of improvement left in it. Even when we were winning a heap of games during this year and last, for most parts of the year we didn't seem good enough to go all the way.

I still think we are best placed moving forward with our list profile, so many key players on our list should improve, i don't think we are as far away from achieving the unthinkable as you make it out. The coaching situation is always a hot topic but the list itself i think should peak in the next few years.

the list was supposed to be peaking already, they just move the goalposts
how can the list be already peaking when the vast majority of our best players haven't even hit 25 yet.

Our list last peaked around 2020-21 but we failed to deliver a flag with that list. A lot of the key drivers of that list are no longer around.
