You are going hard as tonight mate. Don't strain yourself.
You know very well I said Cripps is the deserving winner. And I am happy for him. Better than other players, a good bloke, and one of my fav players outside of the Dogs. I tipped him to win it. Even if the "votes were right", he would have still won by a few.

I was pointing out the same flaws last seasons Brownlow as well. I don't know why you're reading it as some form of negative on Cripps. When it is not that at all.

Exactly - so comparing across seasons is meaningless. There is never going to be a perfect system and Champion Data is certainly not it imo. We have a coaches award and a players award as well. All of them are flawed in some way
The latter are least flawed than the Brownlow which is meant to be the most prestigious. Purely based on credibility of who awards the votes.

Judd was off the charts. I didn’t care he got a second he was that good. Cripps nowhere near that level. But that’s just my opinion. But it’s a pretty even comp and Cripps deserves his medal. I’m not going to contest that

Everyone has short memories, people thought it was an outrage when Judd won in 2010, way more than people think this is now. Cripps was at least a favourite to win, Judd wasn’t even really in 2010.

Cripps is certainly at a similar level to Judd as an out and out gun, and I loved Juddy and saw him close up regularly for us. Judd at west coast was prime Judd though.

Walsh had a 39 disp game and Cripps got 3 with 23 and 2 goals.
Vs Freo 19 disp 2 votes.
Vs Ess 20 disp 2 votes.
Played 1 very good quarter vs pies late in year in the last 3 votes.

N.Daicos went off against melb with 13 and got votes lol.

These umps are cooked.
Everyone in here complains that goals aren't rewarded enough for the key forwards in the brownlow and the example is "oh Walsh's 40 is worth more than 23 and 2" pick a side people.

Yep, Walshy had back issues and even while playing he wasn’t the same player as back half of last season. Cerra even more so, both in their 2023 form would have taken votes off Cripps.

Hopefully we have a better season next year and they take votes off each other.

Cerra was great last year and got 2 votes. Cripps didnt have the best season and got 22. Was actually for that reason I backed Cripps, if he could get 22 last year, he was never losing this season.

I think there will never be a perfect system and regardless of who you get to cast the votes, there will always be some form of bias. Umpires have no idea at the best of times. The players MVP is flawed as the average player won't watch more games than your typical BigFooty poster. Coaches are also subject to bias and will have their favourite players.

Ultimately, it is up to us fans to not put that much stock in these awards and use them as criterion to elevate or put down player's careers.

Why am I reading the insinuation of cheating as a negative on Cripps?

I'm not sure how it could be read any other way.

It makes no difference to me or to the result but, when you say that, someone might point out what you're doing.

You can't compare playing under the roof at Marvel to a wet Friday night at the MCG or a game at the 'Rat or Alice but I like the idea
In a way you can though. Brownlow assumes all happened are the same. Some games, about six players deserve 3 or 9 votes whatever your system is.

Other games, everyone is shit.

Cripps was a deserving Brownlow winner but like many others here I saw the count as farcical.

Cripps would be getting more kudos around here if he won with 36 votes to Daicos 35.

Daicos had a weird night with the umps as well. Almost under polling in some games early on then starts pulling votes out his arse worse than Cripps toward the end of the season.
Yeah, I had Cripps 35, Daicos 34 and Bont 32

Thought Cripps and Nick could’ve tied even

Not at all.

It insinuates that the gulf and spread (or lack thereof) of quality is greater than it’s ever been thought. It would be interesting to a graphical representation of spread of votes over time. It feels like far fewer support types attract votes ever these days.

Eighteen teams obvious also dilutes the number of star teammates taking votes off one another.

20 votes now isn’t 20 votes in the awards yesteryear. This isn’t to downplay Cripps’ fantastic season where he was a dominant player, but it does provide rhetoric as to how vote tallies have changed.

I'm sorry if a player is breaking the record for the most votes by 9 (3 BoG performances) in the premier BnF award for the sport and averaging 2 votes a game (with 10 of those games being losses), I'd expect that player to have had one of the best individual seasons in AFL history.

Cripps was one of the best players in the AFL this season and deserves to be crowned the BnF winner but at his vote tally it showcases how broken the award is and means way less now than it did many years ago.

Cripps got 2 votes for a game he had 19 disposals and went at 14.3% kicking efficiency.
Dusty would never get votes if he had game like that in fact he would hammered in the media for it.

To put into perspective. Dusty’s worst 3 vote performance in 2017 was 30 disposals and 1 goal.

Why are Richmond supporters so weird on this site?

I was simply highlighting why some fans might lack some faith in the system. Wasn't meaning to imply that there was anything suspect in this case. Perhaps I could have used a much clearer and better choice of words.

Enjoy his win Chief. At least you still get to watch a few more seasons of Cripps still to come.

What I don't get tonight is that while a lot are taking the piss out of the tally, and Cripps getting 45 is farcical, it's not as if people are simultaneously saying he was an unworthy winner. There was just too many votes awarded to him, and Daicos as well.

But we have a small pocket of blues fans using it to stick it to Daicos, who one day likely wins a brownlow himself. You know what he's also won. A premiership medallion. Odd flex to use tonight to poke fun at him.
I don't care who won the Brownlow, Diacos a far better player than Cripps. Nobody really cares if Cripps racks up 30 possies.

Blokes like Diacos, Bont etc can just rip the game away from you with batches of brilliance. All the best players Ablett jnr, Dusty have this ability. I would throw Heeney, Warner into that mix also.

As good as Cripps is he just isn't that type of player. Not damaging enough.

The latter are least flawed than the Brownlow which is meant to be the most prestigious. Purely based on credibility of who awards the votes.
If they are less flawed than you should hold them in higher prestige than the Brownlow. These awards can be weighted however you want when evaluating players - it's not like the AFL publish an objective ranking of players. It's just up to the individual

Brownlow Medal. FAIREST and best. Note which comes first - which is why it’s awarded by the umpires, and why it doesn’t always accord with other awards that emphasise “best”.

Try to remember that before you melt over what you think the high vote tally tonight might indicate.

Wild to think Cripps got more votes than Neale and The Bont combined...

Warner had a fantastic year and polled well, yet the gap in voting from him to Cripps, was the same gap to the 138th player....

It's bizarre watching them try and shoehorn Dustin Martin into every post in this thread.
Carlton supporters would never do that with Patrick Cripps. Too much integrity. Like Patrick Cripps.

Spot on.
