Champion data is just as bad as the umps it’s a guide nothing more or less.
I’ve said it for years the umps should be able to have the stats in front of them while voting

Dual Brownlow Medallist use to be an accolade reserved for the best of the best midfielders.
Ablett Jr, Judd, Goodes, Fyfe.
Even modern superstars like Martin and Dangerfield were only ever able to get one.
In the last 5 years, Neale and Cripps are now in the same class as the first four mentioned. At this rate I think N Daicos will have 5 Brownlows by the end of his career.

Not in my opinion... but I'm not an umpire.
Cripps is 2/3 of a footballer - that 2/3 is very, very good but there's a lot he doesn't do. The stuff he does is very visible to the umps. Same with Daicos. That's why players like Rowbottom don't poll well in the Brownlow, the umps don't notice that third. Why defenders don't poll. The award is flawed.

The whole thing feels broken. They should make the umpires pick one midfielder, one defender and one forward/ruckman with their three votes. Will likely still skew towards the ball accumulators but at least a consistent defender, forward or ruckman like Max Gawn might have an outside chance of snagging one in a stand-out season.

All I took out of the night is Chad Warner still has his western Australian girlfriend on his arm …know nothing about her but cant help but think there will b huge pull to get home to wa at stage

Heeney (28), Gulden (25) and Warner (23) all individually outpolled the Tigers (19 votes). In fact Papley’s 8 votes would have had him leading the Tigers team votes.

Here is what the top ten vote-getters in the Brownlow averaged in votes, by decade:
2000s - 17.9
2010s - 22
2020s - 26.3
That's a pretty steep increase, even when factoring in additional games (ie. used to be a 22-round season, now 24)
What it shows to me is that umpires aren't branching out to diversify their votes, but are instead doing the opposite, narrowing in on the same handful of players and almost giving them votes by default. I think it is hardly a coincidence that this relative single-mindedness has coincided with the era of Fantasy & Supercoach, Champion Data & Player Ratings, etc. Umpires are having it shoved down their throats who the best, most dominant, most high-scoring players in the comp are before they've even stepped out to officiate a game. I'm sure they do their best (in most cases - some I genuinely think are straight up cheats) to be objective, but they're only human, and can be as manipulated as anyone outside of a Red Army foot soldier.
