It makes no sense for North to trade for future selections. They need selections this year.
Strange strategy if true.
The future selections would give them a total of 5 future 2nds and 3rds. I'd assume they will bundle a few of them to get back into the 2nd round.

You reckon? They already have big, slow, mids: Pou, Owens, Windhager. They need run. I can see them going for two of Lindsay/Allan/Travaglia/Reid.
Reid has evasiveness and Travaglia gut runs, but both slower sprinters than Smillie. I reckon they do have interest in him, and Jagga if he slides. But I’d expect them to call out at least one of the names you mention.
Hotton could be on the radar, though having cut his brother, awkward!

Reid isn’t that slow. Found his preseason results. Also his yo-yo is huge.

Reid:
20m: 3.025
Vertical: 75cm
Agility: 8.390
Yo-yo: 1000

If we take FOS pick 1, Lalor gets to us at 6 I reckon.
However, Melbourne the big danger as I reckon they'd pass on Langford to get one of them.
Be more guaranteed if he did both hammies.

Updated ODDS:

Richmond Pick 1

Sam Lalor $1.19
Finn O'Sullivan $2.95

Richmond Pick 6

Josh Smillie $1.33
Harvey Langford $5
Alix Tauru $5

Richmond Pick 10

Bo Allan $1.87

Jack Whitlock $2.10
Toby Travaglia $5
Harry Armstrong $6
Jobe Shanahan $6
Murphy Reid $18
Xavier Lindsay $21
Don't get it. If Armstrong is there at 10 we have to nab him. Bo Allen is another HBF we seem to be flushed with already.

Could see FOS getting through Dees if they want a big mid but hard to see Langford over Lalor
We've played it beautifully.
Told both Fos & Smillie too tank.
1-Lalor
6-Fos
10-Smillie

All the noise recently seems to be Draper to Carlton though. He would complement their midfield better IMO.
Draper to Carltoon was assuming FOS was gone.

No one's giving you a second-rounder for your shitty F2s and 3s, pal.

I know we are heavily linked to Smillie at 6, but I wonder if that’s because the wide assumption is that FOS/ Draper will be off the board.

Given we are apparently torn on Lalor/FOS- surely we select Finn > Smillie if it comes to that?

And if Blues take FOS at 3 and Draper / Smillie are both available at 6, do we still opt for Smillie?
Totally.
I rate Smillie, but he’s likely the best avail around that mark and the Tigers have spent a lot of time on him.
If FOS avail, we definitely take FOS.
Draper avail, harder to say, I think we still take Smillie.
Jagga avail, I don’t know. 50/50

Forgot about Paige Cardona what the hell happened to her

Cmon… Adelaide giving up all their picks next year for a 2 pick upgrade?

Finn O’Sullivan (St Kilda)
Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro
Midfielder, 182cm, 30/5/2006
Talent League stats (avg): 17.3 disposals, 5.3 inside 50s, 1.3 goals
The Age’s August top 30: 3 October top 30: 7 November top 40: 4
Agility test: 8.14 secs 20m sprint: 2.99 secs 2km time trial: 6:28 mins
This would be an incredible result for the Saints. Like Lalor, O’Sullivan had an interrupted season with injuries, but he was outstanding in his bottom-age under-18 campaign last year and the best player at the under-16 championships in 2022. O’Sullivan is classy, an excellent runner and marks well for his size. Does he have the same drive as others?

That last bit is what I was getting at with FOS v Lalor a while back Calcium Man
As always it's only when we get this close to the draft where journalists speak with recruiters more and more, that questions about players start to be asked publicly. Outside Ashcroft, every other player in the top 8 midfielders has question marks against them.

Lalor - can he reach his potential/injury concerns
FOS - does he have the right attitude/accumulation concerns
Smith - is he too small to mix it in the midfield full time/damaging enough
Draper - is there a go home factor/injury concerns
Langford - is his lack of pace too much to overcome
Smillie - can he use his size to dominate in the air away from the stoppage
Reid - is he quick enough & damaging enough

Do not in the slightest envy our recruiters heading into the draft. There is going to be no shortage of melting happening next Wednesday night when the perceived favourites don't get picked where we're all hoping they are.

The Size Matters Draft

1. Sam Lalor 188cm Big Bodied Midfielder
6. Josh Smillie 195cm Big Bodied Midfielder
10. Jack Whitlock 200cm KPF/Ruck
11. Bo Allan 191cm Defender/Midfield
18. Matt Whitlock 198cm KPP
20. Alex Dodson 201cm Ruckman
23. Hamish Davis 190cm Mid/Forward
24. Jack Ough 194cm Defender/Midfield

For years Richmond have been the land of the short people with a number of sub 183cm players being drafted over the years, which has seen us often struggle to combat opposition midfields stacked with big bodied types. So in an effort to address that, Richmond goes down the path of recruiting a number of bigger bodied types who could become midfielders in time. Lalor at 188cm is the 'smallest' player taken in this scenario, where we target nothing but size both in the midfield but also in the KPP/Ruck stocks where we get the 2 Whitlocks as bookends with Dodson earmarked as the long term Nankervis replacement.

B: Gibcus M.Whitlock Brown
HB: Allan Balta Ough
C: Ralphsmith Taranto Banks
HF: Lalor J.Whitlock McAuliffe
F: Rioli Lynch Campbell
R: Nankervis Smillie Hopper
INT: Ross Trezise Clarke Green Ryan/Dodson
