If Smillie is available do st Kilda and Melbourne both pass on him? St kilda and Melbourne have recently had a preference for drafting guys with high aerobic capacity so maybe there’s a chance

I think Smillie is a bit more iffy and remember Saints and Melbourne are more in the now than RFC. RFC can take a chance whereas Saints and Melbourne would be a bigger loss if it went amiss

Smillie could be good quite gut, But I am not seeing Bont, and Cripps is a little different, I actually think 10 to 11 for Smillie is about right, But Blair and others have a better idea through their research and networks

If I was to do a phantom draft I think it more reasonable to put Smilie 10 or 11

The thing is with Smillie he is unusual but is a bit of it big kid versus little kid and how much does that play out at AFL level?

Cripps went 12 in a weaker draft to before he went to levels most thought not possible

If we don't take 3 mids with our first 3 picks it will be dumb drafting

How many pure mids do you think we need?

I'd like us to take a Hotton and Hannaford type in this draft, 2KP's and rebounding defender with a great leg.

We'll likely get an A grade mid first pick next year.

Already have Taranto and Hopper on the list next 6 years. I know teams run 7-8 players through there but typically maybe 5 guys take up 80-90% of the mid time.

there's likely more than 8 players in the first round that will be busts, let's just hope they aren't all our 8...

since the 2021 draft. All 5 have shown they can play. Gibcus debuted straight away, Clarke & Sonsie next. Brown & Banks next. Still qn marks over them.
With Meehan gone ~way better environment.
The 1st 2 mids will likely debut first, maybe a small fwd next, maybe a small def next. Maybe the Whitlocks play day 1 as KPF.

Issue i have with Allan is 2 main things
His kicking is not good and inconsistent also does not get enough of the ball which was also the main issue with RCD
Both had good size and athleticism but just inconsistent and impact

You’re right…well sort of…
Allan is a competitor. Hard, aggressive, he takes the game on. That’s the opposite of RCD.
He’d be a risky pick early though. We’ll see where the recruiters weigh up his strengths and weaknesses.

Saints have Windhager, Owens, Crouch, Steele. All big bodies, they need quick guys with great footskills.
