I am not suggesting we straight out told him to play slow, see my post above for a more likely scenario.

But if you were in similar shoes to the player, would you actually be put off by us finishing 18th(due entirely to a historically bad run of injuries) & losing 3 "guns" but gaining 5 extra rd 1 picks for them in a strong draft - and opening huge cap space?

I certainly wouldn't. Even less so if my viable alternatives were North, Crows, Demons, Saints.

Would you want to take a player who's competitiveness isn't high enough to tell someone to gagf if they asked him to underperform?

I don't get the Smilie haters. Looks to be a fairly bankable player to be honest. Worst case a very handy larger mid and best case could really dominate once he gets a few pre-seasons under his belt.

The only thing that worries me about Smilie is his Contested Mark. He took 1 for an entire year against other 18 year olds.

It's a shame that his contested marking is listed as an area for improvement, with his size I reckon he could be a nightmare against defenders when sneaking forward otherwise.

The idea Richmond would suggest to a player that they tank to any degree is ridiculous. What happens when that leaks? Why would Richmond be so stupid and take that risk? Would set the club back a long way.

Why would we pick Allan then? His endurance is rated average (same as Smillie).
