cfl will change the rules by then

All that we fans can generally go by are highlights, the games we've watched here and there, and the phantom drafts. We're allowed to form hopes and opinions based on those.

When we are frothing over the gun VIC kids that we can take with our crazy draft hand, and then get told we might pick a somewhat unknown WA boy when we've just lost two WA kids, of course we're gonna worry. We're excited for Smillie, Smith or Langford at 6 and then we might get... Bo Allan? Who no one else seemingly wants that early in the draft...

We could have had Heppell years ago and instead drafted a small WA midfielder way ahead of where he was projected. Look how that turned out. Heppell wasn't great the last few years but his best was way better than Conca's.

I hate Richmond (Francis Jackson?) curveballs.
Richmond (Francis Jackson?) curveballs also delivered Jack Riewoldt, Shane Edwards, Daniel Rioli and Shai Bolton.

I know a lot of people are complaining about Adding Lalor, Allan and Smillie into our midfield would make us slow, but their ball winning and defensive capabilities mitigate this.

Look at Sydney a few years ago with Keiran Jack, Tom Mitchell, Luke Parker and Josh Kennedy. They weren't very quick midfield but they were a very good midfield unit because they could all win their own ball, and worked hard to shut down the contest, not allowing teams to explode from the contest.

Reckon we will try to model this as well.

Anyone think a trade for pick 2 might still happen?

I still think 10 + 18 or 20 is possible on the night. Gives North one of Tauru, Armstrong, Shanahan, or a Whitlock, and another pretty good player inside 20.

Gives us Lalor and O'Sullivan and still keep pick 6.

I still think a trade for 2 is a chance, maybe 20-30%.

Twomey said we are having trouble seperating Lalor and FOS, so we obviously rate FOS. Norf are desperate to get a pick from 15-30 with their F1, their moves to open list spots reiterate that.

And really their best chances of getting back into that part of the draft are us or GWS, but they ****ed themselves as they can’t offer a decent slide back like other teams such as WCE, Bombers, Dogs, Saints, Hawks etc… who also want picks in that range for F1s

Jesus, this is Conca all over again. If we take Allan at 6, we may as well not show up to the draft.

A mid who averaged 11 touches? Vs someone who has Cripps potential and touted as a number 1 pick ALL YEAR

this narrative about him averaging 11 touches therefore being unable to win the ball is so weird... no consideration for it being at state league level? A level Smillie didn't even play at this year? Not to mention he averaged more touches than Smillie did during the champs (20 vs 19)

Speaking of his WAFL performances, sure he had some quiet weeks - to be expected - but there were plenty of highlights too, a 20 disposal game (rd 18 vs Claremont), a 16 disposal 11 tackle game (rd 14 vs WC), and he played pretty well in the GF where he was entrusted with a midfield role.

Not saying I think he's the best choice at 6 but don't cherry pick stats to suit your argument.

I’ve posted it before but personally I think a midfield that looks slow isn’t one that lacks pace

It’s one that gets caught out of position on the rebound or can’t contain the ball at stoppage/ win stoppage

It all comes down to footy iq and contested ability

We had Bolton last year the fastest mid in the comp but we regularly looked slow in the middle even when he lined up in the centre

Allen is fast, I don’t know about Lalor but he looks quick and powerful on field and Smillie is just average.

They are also very solid, strong and love to get physical.

Jack Leys tackles

The first 2 when he was doing it all on his own. Our Francis my old teacher was so underrated and top man to boot.

Agree with this but Smillie did average 24 in his two afl academy games vs VFL competition (Footscray and Coburg).

Personally I’d take Smillie over Allen, but not by much and would love both.

FFS, we're gonna botch this draft aren't we. Allan has tall, average, 20 disposal outside midfielder written all over him.

Allen has played inside mid at champs and third defender at senior WAFL. Averaged six tackles a game as an inside mid.

There is nothing ‘outside mid’ about him.

11 touches a game. As a third tall at senior WAFL level. Averaged 20 and 6 tackles at National Champs, both more than Lalor and Smillie.

‘Somewhat unknown?’

Unknown to you maybe, but Bo Allan been in the system a long time. Played in four games as a bottom ager in the 2023 National Championships, and was captain for this years WA team. Also played in the senior Peel Thunder team that won the WAFL premiership this season.

Bo Allen is going to either Saints or Melbourne if we don’t take him at 6. Hardly ‘way ahead of where he’s projected’.

This is the worry with us, especially since recruiting has moved back into the hands of FJ and mostly Blair, given Toce sadly passed away. We like to reach and be obscure. And we often whiff as a result.

It hasn’t moved back to the hands of FJ. That’s nonsense.

FJ still oversees the under 16 reviews. There’s a reason Geishan gave the pre-draft interview on the clubs website.

All for people having an opinion but at least have it based on something substantial.

Hotton was far from convincing about his knee 😬

Yeah, heard there are concerns about his achilles and foot as well after some scans.
