Talent league averages in draft year, Smillie was also much better in national champs.

Smillie 24 disposals / 1+ goals
RCD 18 disposals / 0.5 goals

If RCD was a 25%+ better player he is probably still on our list. RCD was a project player, Smillie is already good. The only question is how good he will become in the AFL.
rcd was also a handball merchant in u18s, 6k 12hb whereas smillie averages more kicks than handballs. so they're totally different players and any likening of smillie to rcd is just lazy

also rcd relied on his speed, and his athletic profile is probably more comparable to bo allan

except bo allan loves contact, is aggressive and is great aerially

Going to be very interesting to see what they do on the day - you must think they have some deals pretty far down the track to pull if certain players are not available by certain picks. Can't surely be planning to use all 8 top 25 picks & not be planning to spread them over a few drafts? That would be a very risky strategy
Obviously we will be prepared for any scenario
I’m sure Blair and the team have ran every simulation

You would think so, but its going to be a potentially tricky day to manage, good luck to the team, hope they nail it, but so much going on and how much time do they have inbetween picks to make a deal etc? If they can manage to get good value trading for futures while dealing during the draft, then they would have done very well.

We rate him as the best small after we bid on Kako at 11. Both port and Freo won’t Berry slip to 18.

This will allow a pick of a selection of KPF at pick 18 rather then at 10 or 11.

West coast 12
Port 13
Freo 14
GWS 15, 16
Bulldogs 17

None of these teams will take a KF bar possibly Port. So that will mean we get Berry and also get a pick out of Armstrong, Shannahan, Whitlock, Faull.
GWS would take a KF to develop along Cadman plus Hogan & Riccardi are getting on

Excellent point. I’ve been edgy ever since Allan was mooted for pick 6…. I’ve calmed since the late mail put him back to 10 ;)

nah, I am going fully onboard with Allan at six, and if he is better than Jagga, you will eat your hat, so you stated :D

Allan and co is the fresh air we need to revitalise the place. New ways, new ideas on our journey for new premierships to shock the AFL!! all with a old input, hard work, head down bum up!!

my final realistic wish list -

1. Lalor, sounds like dusty, plays like dusty, at worst I think he’s a cam Raynor half forward that can torch sides when he’s on
6. Langford - I just can’t get over this highlight at 3:53 look at the score, look where he comes from, it’s the kind of mark Fyfe takes in his prime or bont or heeney. I’m not worried about his pace when he reads the game and marks very well. (Not fussed if we take smillie here though)

10. Lindsay - smooth and elite skills has a good inside and outside game. I think yze would be screaming at our recruiters to take a few kids that can kick well. (Happy to take a risk on Bo Allen if we target elite kicks and outside players with later picks)

11. Shanahan - the way he jumps at the footy and takes his marks reminds me of Curnow or even hogan, seems to have a bit of swagger when he gets going, already a decent size and has good form in vfl.
18. Harry Oliver - good defensively but also a lethal left foot. The more I read about him it just seems like this kid will find his way to 200 games and be one of those underrated players outside but loved by the club and fans inside
20. Dattoli - sounds like he has a crack and could provide a spark every now and then in the midfield, bit of a baker replacement.
23 - trade for a future first and a pick later in the 40’s to use on Noah Mraz or some other slider that we can take a risk on.
24 - as much as we can get in next years draft.

Take 7 players. Bit of variety, but a focus guys that can play mid as well as flanks and wing mainly with a couple of talls. Go into next year with at least 3 firsts plus more would be a great result.

Does it matter the SCG is a lot smaller than most other grounds especially our MCG?

The SCG would look a bit bigger if they got camera height. I’ve been about that three quarters of my life.

Short passes going sideways ie. toward or away from the central camera position look like they are going about three metres.

Play can look really congested when in fact it’s not; just that the camera has to see past all the bodies in the way.

There’s a reason why coaches boxes are up high.

In case in anyone didn’t realise, it’s one of my footy hobby horses. It’s a major stadium; lift the cameras up FFS.
