Good picks as well with RIvers, Darling, Viney (Shennigans) and Ryan

Very much a mixed bag

Probably more in the ‘way forward’ thread. However, our GF performance certainly does make one evaluate the shape and composition of the team and overall list leading into the draft. Otherwise, we’re doomed of repeating the cycle…again.
I posted this in May of 2022

I don't think some have truly come to terms with the fact that the current team that is so reliant on it's senior core playing key roles (Hickey, Buddy, Rampe, JPK, maybe Parker, Lloyd, Cunningham) and the future team with our young core finally in their primes will not coincide.

I'm a massive fan of our core nucleus of youngsters - McCartin, Blakey, Rowbottom, McInerney, Warner, McDonald, Campbell and Gulden - but they're gonna be trying to get us a flag in a very different-looking Swans team to the one at present.

I'm just not sure we've aligned the generations correctly, if such a thing is even possible.

Although some of the names have changed, I still feel this could be a potential problem. It's exciting that so many of our best players are young players who we are gonna be able to enjoy for close to or over the next decade. But there's this whole other portion of players who are also still among our best/most important - Mills, Heeney, Papley, Lloyd, Grundy, Cunningham, Rampe. I would argue the latter four are still more important than we maybe want them to be given they're over 30. For example we look horrible in defence every time Rampe doesn't play, there is no obvious replacement who can do what Cunningham does to his level (besides maybe Fox, who is also over 30.) The only Grundy replacements on the list are the wildly unreliable Ladhams and the teenage Green, still in his baby-giraffe stage. And who knows how much longer we have the primes of Heeney, Mills & Papley?

So whilst we may think we have this great crop of young players for the next decade, my concern is that if they don't win a flag in the next year or so, they're gonna spend the better part of that decade trying to win one without a lot of very good players. It makes missed opportunities like this year and 2022 so very costly.

Our 9 previous selections at 23 and 26 in the draft accounted for 67 games and 47 games came from Doyle drafted in 99

This guy could talk underwater. Good watch.

Little shocked with the Dattoli call because i think there are plenty of quantity of young small forwards on our list. Think there were other needs or other possible selections that could have mocked at the pick there that would benefit the side the most but it is only a mock draft.

We could do a lot worse.

Hard to go past Hynes as a pick for that will have a high floor if he's available IMO. - and might get games next year too if we wanted to get a bit more mobile than our three talls.
190 cm, athletic, plays forward or middle. Starts off forward no doubt but can have a few spells in the middle.
Tend to think Hynes and a Whitlock would be a good and balanced return. A LT need and a player with the athletic and ball getting numbers to suggest early games.

The 2 I like are Jagga Smith and Josh Smillie.

Now I'm sure there will be some naysayers, suggesting they will be selected earlier.

However remember the AFL is a community and we have two 'new' boys in Keane as list manager and John Giramondo in recruiting, so the other clubs will be eager to help out our new boys,

Been saying this for the last 3 months or so that a baseline of Hynes and Whitlock isn't the worst. As it looks like the Hotton slide is starting to stall a fraction and WB and GWS will pick him up. Still mocks are mocks and expect the unexpected come draft day so there probably will be a top 10-15 ranked player on the board at 22

Just did some maths around bid matching for Cochran and how it would work as the main 4 bid matches in the first round get rid of picks around our 44 and 59 and here is what i came up with.

Cochran projected to be in the 40-55 range.
Sydney will be absolutely fine to match as 59 comes in to 53 after the first 4 major bid matches which will cover a bid match up to 40 which is projected to be the exact pick after Sydney's current 44 comes into 39 or 40 after the major 4 bid matches. Also if he continues slipping past then it doesn't matter as if he goes 4th round a deficit I believe won't carry over as 4th rounders carry no draft value next year. Sydney would be trading up but also grabbing an F3 next year imo

I'm glad the media has mentioned Christian Moraes in their draft preview for the Swans.

Current Draft Picks: 19, 22, 44, 59

What do you add to a side who was the best all year before another grand final horror show? Sydney’s first two picks are in a strong range of the draft where some ready-made talent is on offer.

Jesse Dattoli and Cooper Hynes can slot in right away as forwards with the potential for midfield minutes in time – Dattoli silky skilled and Hynes possessing power and toughness. Tom Gross and Christian Moraes are also forward-midfielders and should be around that range of the draft, while WA medium forward Hamish Davis impressed at league level this season.

If the Swans are happy to be patient, either of the Whitlock twins – Matt a versatile swingman and Jack a mobile forward-ruck – can fill key position posts into the future.

Jonty Faull shapes as another promising tall forward in the 20s.

They have an athletic key defender from their academy in Joel Cochran, who showed his running power by taking out the 2km time trial at the draft combine. The 194cm prospect is likely to receive a bid in the back-half of the draft.

Swans supporter as well just don't know if he will be the right selection given he feels more like a Campbell type and don't think Swans would be willing to give up on Campbell just yet.

Really like Moraes but not sure he is tbe type we need. Currently projecting as a HFF/Wing type at AFL level which is where I reckon he will end up.

If he develops some more muscle/power could be a Chad like player but that would be his absolute ceiling IMO. Reckon he ends up in the Isaac Smith ballpark if he continues his development.

Decent summary.
